Washington County, Kentucky County Court Film # 0241421 Item 1
Page 378-379
December the 3rd 1799
At the motion of Mary [McCaslin] Snodgrass and Hugh Snodgrass who made oath and together with Robert McCaslin [Mary's brother] and Robert Snodgrass their securities Executed and acknowledged bond in the penalty of one hundred pounds conditioned as the court directs, a certificate is granted them for obtaining letter of administration on the estate of Samuel Snodgrass Deceased. Samuel Snodgrass was Mary's husband.

Robert McCaslin is listed in Washington County in the 1800 Tax List for Kentucky, along with his brothers, John (Washington County), Richard (Mercer County) and David (Shelby County), and his brother-in-law Hugh Snodgrass (Washington County).

In the 1810 US Federal Census for Washington County, Kentucky, Robert McCaslin has in his household, 3 males under 10 (Richard, William R and David), one male 26 through 44 (himself), one female under 10 (7-year-old Margaret), 2 females 10 through 15 (one is 14-year-old Mary) and one female 26 through 44 (his wife Nancy Snodgrass McCaslin). Robert's brother John is also recorded on this census page.

In the 1820 US Federal Census for Washington County, Kentucky, Robert McCaslin [transcribed Robt M Carttin] has in his household 3 males under 10 [Hugh is one of them], one male 10 to 16 [David], one male 16 to 18 [William], one male 16 to 26 [Richard], one male over 45 [himself], one female under 10 [Margaret], 3 females 16 to 26 [one is Mary], one female 26 to 45 [unknown], and one female over 45 [his wife Nancy Snodgrass McCaslin].

I also traced Robert (who married Nancy Snodgrass) to 1820 in Washington County, Kentucky, using the census and road maintenance records. There is a two year gap in the records, with nothing between 1820 and 1822. When I look for him in 1822 in Washington County, Robert isn't there. His children moved on to Jefferson County, Indiana. First record is in 1824 when Richard married Ann Hemphill, second in 1826 when William R married Eliza White, third in 1828 when David married Rachel Largent, fourth when Margaret married Alexander White, fifth Mary (Polly) McCaslin Hemphill shows up on the 1830 census in the household of Samuel Hemphill, sixth in 1833 when Hugh married Malinda Chambers. So I speculate that the family is in Jefferson County by 1822 with or without Robert and Nancy.
