In the 1860 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 32-year-old Thomas H Alexander and his 31-year-old wife Sarah (McCaslin) Alexander and their two children, 6-year-old Mary E and 2-year-old Margaret E are living next door to her brother John McCaslin and John's wife Martha J (Alexander) McCaslin who is Thomas' sister. In the 1870 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 42-year-old Thomas H Alexander and his 41-year-old wife Sarah have in their household their children, 16-year-old Mary E, 12-year-old Margaret E, 8-year-old Sarah E [Alice], 7-year-old George and 4-year-old Hattie. John and Martha McCaslin are no longer living next door. In the 1880 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, Margaret is living with her parents and siblings. The census takes seems to have been confused as Margaret is recorded as Mary E, but her sister, Mary E, is in the household, and the age for the second Mary matches the age of Margaret 10 years earlier. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 42-year-old Margaret E [Alexander] Devore and her husband 37-year-old Judson Devore have been married 15 years. They have had four children, 15-year-old Flora S, 11-year-old Thomas A, 2-year-old Carmel J and 1-year-old Mable B, and all four are living. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Needham, Johnson, Indiana, 47-year-old farmer Judson and his 50-year-old wife Maggie E [Margaret Elizabeth Alexander] Devore have been married 26 years. They have had four children, one (Mabel) has died and one, 12-year-old Carmel, is still at home. Judson owns the land he farms although it is mortgaged. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Needham, Johnson, Indiana, 56-year-old Judson Devore is still doing "General Farming." He and his 61-year-old wife Margaret [Alexander] Devore are living next door to their son 23-year-old Carmel J, their 24-year-old daughter-in-law Edith and their grandchildren, 3-year 8-month old Wanetta and one-year and 7-month old Herschel. |
