In the 1860 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 32-year-old Thomas H Alexander and his 31-year-old wife Sarah (McCaslin) Alexander and their two children, 6-year-old Mary E and 2-year-old Margaret E are living next door to her brother John McCaslin and John's wife Martha J (Alexander) McCaslin who is Thomas' sister. In the 1870 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 42-year-old Thomas H Alexander and his 41-year-old wife Sarah have in their household their children, 16-year-old Mary E, 12-year-old Margaret E, 8-year-old Sarah E [Alice], 7-year-old George and 4-year-old Hattie. John and Martha McCaslin are no longer living next door. In the 1880 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 26-yr old Mary E Alexander has married Clay Devore, been widowed and had her daughter Daisy die, and she is back living with her parents, Thomas and Sarah (McCaslin) Alexander. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Needham, Johnson, Indiana, 61-year-old farmer Thomas Hendricks and his 45-year-old wife Mary E [Alexander Devore] Hendricks have been married 18 years. They have in their household the two surviving children of the four Mary has borne, 17-year-old Claude and 15-year-old Loren. The two children who died are Daisy Dean Devore who died when she was 1-1/2 years old and Ivy Grace Hendricks, who died when she was almost 12. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 71-year-old Thomas Hendricks and his 57-year-old wife Mary E [Alexander Devore] Hendricks have been married 28 years. They have moved into town where they own their home free and clear of mortgage. Mary and Thomas' two sons, Claude and Loren, are still living.
