Indiana McCaslins

In the 1860 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 32-year-old Thomas H Alexander and his 31-year-old wife Sarah (McCaslin) Alexander and their two children, 6-year-old Mary E and 2-year-old Margaret E are living next door to her brother John McCaslin and John's wife Martha J (Alexander) McCaslin who is Thomas' sister.

In the 1870 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 42-year-old Thomas H Alexander and his 41-year-old wife Sarah have in their household their children, 16-year-old Mary E, 12-year-old Margaret E, 8-year-old Sarah E [Alice], 7-year-old George and 4-year-old Hattie. John and Martha McCaslin are no longer living next door.

In the 1880 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 26-yr old Mary E Alexander has married Clay Devore, been widowed and had her daughter Daisy die, and she is back living with her parents, Thomas and Sarah (McCaslin) Alexander.

In the 1900 US Federal Census for Needham, Johnson, Indiana, 61-year-old farmer Thomas Hendricks and his 45-year-old wife Mary E [Alexander Devore] Hendricks have been married 18 years. They have in their household the two surviving children of the four Mary has borne, 17-year-old Claude and 15-year-old Loren. The two children who died are Daisy Dean Devore who died when she was 1-1/2 years old and Ivy Grace Hendricks, who died when she was almost 12.

In the 1910 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 71-year-old Thomas Hendricks and his 57-year-old wife Mary E [Alexander Devore] Hendricks have been married 28 years. They have moved into town where they own their home free and clear of mortgage. Mary and Thomas' two sons, Claude and Loren, are still living.

HOPEWELL.
The descendants of George and
Elizabeth Alexander, held a reunuion
Saturday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. George A McCaslin. About
forty were present. Because of the
rain, a big table was spread in a
wagon shed, where a delightful pic-
nic dinner was served. Those pres-
ent were: Mr. and Mrs. George Mc-
Caslin, Mr. and Mrs. John Z Hol-
comb and daughter, Beaulah, Mr.
and Mrs. Claude Hendricks, Thomas
Alexander and family, Mr. and Mrs.
R. N. McCaslin and daughter, Clara
belle, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hamilton
and son Lawrence Hugh, Mr. and
Mrs. Cecil McCaslin and son Max,
Mr. and Mrs. George Alexander and
son, Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. W. E.
McCaslin and daughter Elizabeth
Louise, and Miss Belle McCaslin.
Special guests were T. C. List and
Mr. and Mrs. Will Chandlier and son
Gordon.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 66-year-old, Indiana-born, widowed Mary E [Alexander Devore] Hendricks is living in a house ata 474 South Street, which she owns, free of mortgage. She has "none" listed as her occupation. She is literate and speaks English. Her father was born in Tennessee and her mother in Indiana.

MRS. MARY HENDRICKS
DIES FRIDAY AFTER
PROTACTED ILLNESS

Prominent Resident
of Shiloh, Franklin;
Funeral Monday

Mrs. Mary Alexander Hendricks,
73, well known in Franklin and in
Johnson county, succumbed at her
home of Sourh street Friday after-
noon at 1:55 o'clock following a
three weeks' illness of appendicitis
and a complication of disease.
The deceased, a widow of the
late Thomas H. Hendricks, who
died several years ago, was a resi-
dent of the Shiloh community, east
of Franklin, practaically all of her
life. The family moved to Frank_
lin eighteen years ago, where Mrs.
Hendricks had since resided.
Funeral services will be be held at
the home on South street Monday
afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the
Rev. James Elder of Nashville,
Tenn. officiating. Burial will be
made in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mary Alexander Hendricks was
the daughter of Thomas H. and
Sarah Alexander. She was born
in Johnson couty, September 12,

1853. She was twice married, first
to Clay Devorce [sic] fifty-one years
ago. Mr. Devore died a year later.
To this union was born one
daughter, Daisy Dean Devore, who
died in infancy.
Many Relative Survive
The deceased was united in mar-
riage to Thomas H. Hendricks in
April 26, 1882. Three children,
Claude, Loren, and Grace Hen-
dricks were born to this union.
Grace Hendricks died at the age
of twelve years. Claude and Loren
Hendircks reside in Needham
township.
There are two step children,
Bert Hendricks of Acton and Mrs.
Emma McCoy of Atlanta, Ga.
Eight grandchildren and eight
step grandchildren also survive.
One brother, George Alexander,
of south of Franklin and two sis-
ters, Mrs. John Holcomb and Mrs.
Judson Devore of this county sur-
vive.
Mrs. Hendricks united with the
Shiloh C. P. church in December,
1870 and was one of the most faith-
ful attendants at uts services.
