Name on birth record is Alvin, but parents and date are correct. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 45-year-old Indiana-born farmer Everett M and his 45-year-old Indiana-born wife Mary B [Ditmars] McCaslin have been married for 23 years and have had two children, both are living. These Indiana-born children are 18-year-old Herbert D and 14-year-old Caroline. Also in this household is 19-year-old , Indiana-born servant Josephine Shepherd. Herbert and Caroline have attended school 7 months of the past year. Everyone in the household can read, write and speak English. Everyone's parents were born in Indiana. From the Purdue Year Book: "Mac" is one of these good, old-fashioned, motherly sort of fellows that can never see a joke until it has got past them and don't indulge much in the frivolities of life ; and yet he has made a lot of friends, possibly because he belongs to the class that Oliver Wendell Holmes describes as being refreshingly dull after one has been in long association with smart alecks, or words to that effect. "Mac" was a steady and consistent trainer on the track for the mile run, and would undoubtedly have won every event he entered, had there not always been somebody else that was just a little bit faster. In his attempt to fill the rather large shoes left vacant by the departure of our class president he has preserved the even tenor of his way, wholly unmoved by the responsibilities of his position. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Bosler 9th District, Albany, Wyoming, 28-year-old Indiana-born Herbert D McCaslin is single and a farmer, boarding at Frank Fights house(Sheep rancher) along with ten other men. He owns his acreage and has had no days out of work in the past year. His parents were both born in Indiana. The Evening Star, Saturday, August 14, 1915 Who are Making Their Success in In the 1920 US Federal Census for Pine View, Elbert, Colorado, 38-year-old Indiana-born Herbert D McCaslin is a cattle farmer who owns the acreage of his ranch. He and his wife, 35-year-old Texas-born Nancy [Noble] McCaslin, have two living Colorado-born children, 5-year-old Lois and 9-month old Mary. Herber's parents were born in Indiana, Nancy's in Texas and the children's father was born in Indiana and their mother in texas. A third child Edith Nancy was almost two-years old at the time of her death in 1918. A fourth child was born before Herbert's death in 1925. From the "the Semi-Centennial Alumni Record of Purdue University", published in May 1924: Herbert Ditmars McCaslin died on 4 May 1925, a year after the above information was printed.
