On 17 Jan 1903 23-year-old Mr James Davis and 21-year-old Miss Abbie McCaslin, both of Crawford County, Arkansas applied for a marriage license at the Crawford County Clerk's office. They were married in Crawford County on 19 Jan 1903 by John Q West.

In the 1910 US Federal Census for Oliver Springs, Crawford, Arkansas, 29-year-old Arkansas-born James and his 28-year-old Arkansas-born wife Eva [sic] [Sarah Abigain McCaslin] Davis have been married seven years. Sarah has borne two children, both are living. These two Arkansas-born children are 6-year-old Raymond and new-born Gladdis [sic]. Raymond has attended school in the past year. James and Sarah can read, write and speak English. James is doing "general farming" on land he owns, free of mortgage. The birthplace of James' parents is left blank; Everyone else's parents were born in Arkansas. Living next door is Sarah's sister Lytha [McCaslin] Temple and her husband, Charles H Temple.

The Davis family seems to have gotten recorded twice on the 1920 census, both in Van Buren, Crawford, Arkansas, first as the James M Davis family, then as the Pete Davis family.

Gladys has attended school in the past year. James, Abbie and Raymond can read, write and speak English. The family is living on a farm in a rented house. James is working for as a furnace man for a smelter. James' parents were born in Alabama. Everyone else's parents were born in Arkansas.

Second:
In the 1920 US Federal Census for Van Buren, Crawford, Arkansas, 36-year-old Arkansas-born Pete [sic] and his 32-year-old Arkansas-born wife Abbie have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 16-year-old Raymond and 11-year-old Gladys. Gladys has attended school in the past year. James, Abbie, Raymond and Gladys can read, write and speak English. The family is living on a farm in a rented house. James is working for a "smelter furnace". James' parents were born in Alabama. Everyone else's parents were born in Arkansas.

In the 1930 US Census for Van Buren, Crawford, Arkansas, 50-year-old Arkansas-born James A [sic] and his 48-year-old Arkansas-born wife Abbie [McCaslin] Davis were married when he was 23- and she was 21-years old. They have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 27-year-old Raymond and 20-year-old Gladys. The family is living at 1800 Adam Street in a house that James owns, worth $1,500. They have a radio. Everyone can read, write and speak English. James is a groundsman at an illegible factory and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Raymond is a grinder at a scissor factory and also has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Neither has served in the military. Everyone's parents were born in Arkansas.
