In the 1920 US Federal Census for Ozark, Barry, Missouri, 52-year-old Arkansas-born farmer Tomas [sic] J McCaslin [sic] has in his household his Arkansas-born children, 18-year-old Bertha J [sic], 16-year-old Goldie M, 13-Ollie M, and 9-year-old Willis J. Living next door is Thomas' son 27-year-old Missouri-born farm laborer Wesley [John Wesley], Wesley's 19-year-old Missouri-born wife Dovie [sic] [Heatherly] McCaslin [sic] and their son 2-year 3-month old Missouri-born William. Everyone except Willis and William can read and write. Ollie and Willis have attended school in the past year. Thomas' father was born in Arkansas and his mother in North Carolina. Everyone else's parents were born in Missouri except Dovie. Dovie's parents are recorded as being born in the United States. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Ozark, Barry, Missouri, 34-year-old [sic] Missouri-born divorc Wesley McCaslin has in his household his Missouri-born children, 13-year-old William, 11-year-old Charley, 9-year-old Lewis and 6-year-old Cora. William, Charley and Lewis have attended school in the past year and can read and write. Wesley is illerate. He is a farmer who owns the land he is farming and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. On 31 Jan 1938, 20-year-old unemployed WilliamWesley McCaslinapplied for his Social Security Number. He states that he is living at Mayers Lane, Shafter, Kern, California andthat he was born 26 Sep 1917 inBerry [sic] County, Missouri. His parents are Wesley William McCaslin and Dovie Heatherley.He has applied for a Social Security Number previously on 8 Jan 1938 and is refiling due to "not filling out correctly". He signs his appication with an X next to his name, Bill W McCaslin. In the 1940 US Federal Census for J. Twp 17, Kern, California, 22-year-old, Missouri-born Bill McCaslin and his 20-year-old Oklahoma-born wife Geneva [Wood] McCaslin have in their household their California-born sons, 3-year-old Billy and 7-month-old Donald. Bill has attended school through the 7th grade. Geneva has attended school through the 8th grade. Neither Billy nor Donald have attended school. Billy was living in Pryor, Maze, Oklahoma in 1935. The family is living in a rented farm house on Wasco Way, which Bill rents for $4 a month. Bill is employed as a farm laborer, has worked 20 hours in the past week, and 36 weeks in the past year. He has earned $540 in wages or salary. Geneva is a housewife, and has earned no wages in the past year. Neither has a source of outside income.
