In the 1930 US Federal Census for Valley, Garland, Arkansas, 67-year-old Indiana-born farmer Charles and his 55-year-old [sic] Arkansas-born wife Princess L [Moncrief] McCaslin were married when he was 29- and she was 20-years old [abt 1892]. They have in their household four boarders, 50-year-old Will and 34-year-old Ella M [McCaslin Boswell] Garett, and their daughter Ella's children, 14-year-old Evelyn and 12-year-old Charles Boswell. Living on the next farms are two more McCaslin families, Charles's son, Emmett R, and Charles' brother Robert. The 1940 US Federal Census for Valley, Garland, Arkansas records 37-year-old, Arkansas Emmett McCaslin, his wife, 31-year-old, Arkansas-born Lucile [Maddox] McCaslin and their Arkansas-born children, 12-year-old Ralph, 10-year-old Arthur R., 8-year-old Shelby, 6-year-old Sarah C, 4-year-old Stanley D and 1-year-old John R. The family is living on a rented farm in Royal, Arkansas. They were living in the same place in 1935. Emmett and Lucile have completed eighth grade. Ralph has completed sixth grade. Arthur has completed fourth grade. Shelby has completed second grade. Sarah, Stanley and John have not attended school. Emmett is self employed as an owner-operator of a dairy farm. He has worked 60 hours in the past week and 52 weeks in the past year, earning $600. Lucile also works on the dairy farm, has worked 50 hours in the past week and 52 weeks of the past year. As Emmett's wife, she earns no salary. Arthur R McCaslin applied for his Social Security Number in Arkansas before 1951. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha Abbott McCaslin, of Royal; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Ann McCaslin, of Winter, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Charles Bishop, of Royal; four grandchildren and spouses, Shane McCaslin, of Dallas, Texas, Chris and Katie McCaslin, of Dallas, Texas, Shawn and Teresa Bishop, of Lamar, Ark., and Wesley and Chrissy Bishop, of Malvern; two greatgrandchildren, Nels Bishop and Cadence Grace Bishop; his mother, Lucille Maddox McCaslin; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Ruby McCaslin, of Royal, Stanley and Ima McCaslin, of Royal, Shelby McCaslin, of Tennessee, and Howard McCaslin, of California; two sisters and brother-in-law, Sarah Hale, of Hot Springs, and Martha and Gale Ferrell, of Las Vegas, Nev.; many nieces; nephews; and a host of friends. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2008, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home chapel, Hot Springs, with the Rev. Doyle Whitesel and the Rev. Steve Nelson officiating. Interment will be in the McDowell Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, Saturday evening. Pallbearers will be Charles Bishop, Shawn Bishop, Wesley Bishop, Chris McCaslin, Shane McCaslin and Dan Lawniczak.
