He and his 48-year-old North Carolina-born wife Elvira [Parker] Carr have in their household their Indiana-born children, 21-year-old cooper James L, 18-year-old cooper William T, 16-year-old Rachael, 14-year-old Noah J, 12-year-old Levi A, 10-year-old Isabel, 8-year-old Elizabeth, and 5-year-old Elvira.

In the 1860 US Federal Census for Jennings, Scott, Indiana, 57-year-old Kentucky-born Thomas Carr is a farmer with $1,900 in real estate and $300 in personal property. He and his 55-year-old North Carolina-born wife Elvira [Parker] Carr have in their household their Indiana-born younger children, 24-year-old Joseph (farmer), 22-year-old Levi (farmer), 18-year-old Isabell, 16-year-old Elizabeth, and 14-year-old Elvira Carr (school girl). John is a tobacconist, Rachel is keeping house, Engledove "works at gas fitting" and Ella is "at school".

Rachel [Carr Hough] Markwell, born 5 Oct 1834 in Indiana, was 87-years 1-month 17-days old when she died of a cerebral hemorage of four days duration at 4:40 p.m. on 22 Nov 1921 at 1717 Baird St, Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky. She was a widow. Her parents, Thos [sic] Carr and Elvira Parker, were both born in South Carolina [sic]. The informant was W E Foster also of 1717 Baird St. Her doctor was George H Yenowine. The undertaker was Thos [sic] Keen of 1529 W Market, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery on 24 Nov 1921.
