Three of these four are living with them, 17-year-old Indiana-born housekeeper Clara, 15-year-old schoolboy Herman, and 11-year-old schoolboy Homer. Calvin owns the land he farms, free of mortgage. Everyone can read write and speak English. Calvin's father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Indiana; both of Martha's parents were born in Indiana.
