Sherman and Clara have been married for 13 years. Clara has borne four children and all are living. The family is living on a farm that Sherman owns, which has a mortgage. He is doing "general farming". Everyone except Ruth is literate and speaks English. Sherman's parents were born in Ohio. Clara's and the children's parents were born in Indiana.
