Shared note | Wesley White McCaslin married Mary Jane Yager Morgan on 7 Jun 1893. Mary J [Yager Morgan] McCaslin filed for a widow's pension on 26 May 1894. Her attorney was P. H. Fitzgerald of Indianapollis, Indiana. On 26 Oct 1895, P. H. Fitzgerald requested that she transfer her claim to Fitzgerald & Delp, due to press of business. Mary was living in Greenwood, Johnson, Indiana at this time. On 17 Jan 1895, 54-year-old William T Miller of 142 Lexington Ave, Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana testified in Mary Jane Yager Morgan's pension case that he had known Wesley W McCaslin, from about 1853 or 1854, that he knew that Wesley's first wife, Melissa [Malissa] A McCaslin died in Johnson County, Indiana 12 Nov 1889, as she was his cousin. He also testified that Mary J McCaslin, Wesley's widow had not remarried since Wesley's death. On 7 February 1896, Mary J Yager Morgan McCaslin states in her application for a widow's pension that her first husband, William B Morgan, ran away with another woman in 1872. He got a divorce in Ohio in 1875 for desertion, and Mary got a copy of the decree. The Franklin Democrat, Friday, April 3, 1896, Volume XXXVI, Number 38, page 1, column 3 PERSONAL AND LOCAL Mary J McCaslin, of Pleasant township, has been granted an original pension. Retroactive to 29 Sep 1893 Mary J [Yager Morgan] McCaslin got a widow's pension of $8 per month based on her husband Wesley W McCaslin's service as a Sergeant in Company F, 5th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. She died on 18 May 1904. |
