Our father, Richard Clerkin, passed peacefully away on June 15th at the grand age of 88 years.

Dad was proud of his 27 years of military service, having attained the rank of Major in the U.S. Air Force. In retirement, he spent over 30 years as commander of the Merced County VFW Honor Guard honoring our fallen Veterans and comforting their families in their time of grief.

Our Dad loved many things, his church, hunting and fishing, golf, gardening and community service, but above all he loved his family and his countless friends.

He was preceded in death by our beloved mother Barbara, with whom he has been joyously reunited.

He is survived by his children, Kay and Ron Maness, Ricky Clerkin, Bruce Clerkin, Becky and Tony Buehl, Allen and Patty Hanly, Linda and Jim Campbell, Mary and Mike Reid, John and Charles Clerkin-Whitcomb; twelve grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Atwater at 11:00 AM, to be followed by a celebration of his life at the Winton VFW Hall, 7093 West Walnut Avenue, Winton. All are invited to come and share food and drinks, love and laughter.

Burial services will be at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, California on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 2:30 PM.
