In the 1910 US Federal Census for Mechanicham, Jefferson, Louisiana, 34-year-old Massachusetts-born chemist David and his 27-year-old Missouri-born wife Laura [Koebel] Schwartz have been married 8 years and have three Louisiana-born children, 7-year-old Andrew, 4-year-old Charles, and 1-year 9-month old Jonathan. Andrew has attended school in the past year. The family is living in a rented house on Second Street. David's parents were both born in Germany, while Laura's father was born in Louisiana and her mother in Germany.

On 26 Jun 1922, 20-year-old Andrew Koebel Schwartz, student, applied for a passport to study abroad for two years in England, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, spain, Holland, Czechoslavakia, Austria, Belgium and Norway.
