In the 1900 US Federal Census for Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, 29-year-old Indiana-born laundry man William F and his 22-year-old Indiana-born wife Florence B [Smith] McPhetridge have been married four years and have had two children, both of whom, 2-year-old Horace F and 8-month old James H are in their household. The family is living in a rented house at 926 Charles Street. William and Florence can read, write and speak English.

In the 1910 US Federal Census for Bean Blossom, Monroe, Indiana, 39-year-old Indiana-born farmer William F and his 29-year-old [sic, shes 32] Indiana-born wife Florence B [Smith] McPhetridge have been married 12 years [sic should be 14 years] and have had four Indiana-born children, 11-year-old Horace F, 10-year-old Howard J, 5-year-old Freda G, and 2-year-old Ugene [Eugene], all of whom are in their household. William is doing general farming on land that he owns but with a mortgage.
