In the 1910 US Federal Census for Sugar Creek, Boone, Indiana, 53-year-old Indiana-born Frone N [Fronefield] and his 37-year-old Indiana-born wife Lucy [Carson] Horner [transcribed as Horney] have been married 20 years and have had six Indiana-born children, all of whom are living with them. They are 18-year-old Harvey [sic Hervey] L, 17-year-old Basil C, 15-year-old Roscoe, 12-year-old Helen, 9-year-old Ralph C and 2-year-old Elizabeth E. Frone is a veterinary surgeon, Hervey is odd jobs laborer, and Basil is an apprentice telegrapher. Roscoe, Helen, and Ralph have attended school in the past year. Frone, Lucy, Hervey, Basil, Roscoe and Helen can read and write.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, 48-year-old Indiana-born widow Lucy J [Carson] Horner has in her household her Indiana-born children, 28-year-old Hervey L, 27-year-old Basil C, 25-year-old Roscoe J, 19-year Ralph C, 12-year-old Elizabeth and 5-year-old Julian. The family is living in a rented house at 1728 Hall Place. Lucy is listed as Head of Household with no employment, Hervey is a machinist in a shop, Basil is a bookkeeper for a manufacturing plant, Roscoe is a tube roller at a tire works, Ralph is a curtain finisher at a shop, Elizabeth has no occupation bur has attended school in the past year, and Julian has no occupation and has not attended school. Everyone in the family can read and write except Julian.

In the 1930 US Federal Census, 28-year-old Indiana-born George D and his 22-year-old Indiana-born wife Elizabeth E [Horner] Pettinger were married when he was 23- and she was 17-years old. They have in their household their Indiana-born children, 4-years 3-months old Alice E, one-year 8-months old Iris J and 5-month old George M, and Elizabeths Indiana-born brothers, 38-year-old Hervey L Horner, 36-year-old Roscoe, 29-year-old Ralph and 16-year-old Julian. This combined household is living in a rented house at 3608 North Illinois Street for which they pay $50 a month and they have a radio. George is a commercial traveler for an engineering supply company, Hervey and Roscoe are machinists for an auto company, Ralph is an automobile salesman, and Julian has no profession and has not attended school in the past year. George, Hervey, Roscoe and Ralph have all worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Roscoe is a veteran of WWI. All the adults are literate and everyone but the two babies speaks English. Georges father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in Indiana. The Horners parents were born in Indiana.

On 26 August 1941, when 34-year-old Elizabeth Horner Pettinger applies for a Social Security Number, she is living at 432 South Oakland, Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, and working for the Sterling Laundry Company at 735 Lexington, Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana. She states that she was born 28 April 1907 in Thorntown, Boone, Indiana and that her father's name is Frone Newton Hormer and her mother's Lucy Carson. She signs this application as Elizabeth E Pettinger.

On 27 April 1942, when 47-year-old Roscoe Jackson Horner registers for the WWII draft, he states that he is living at 2913 Northwestern, Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, that he was born on 22 September 1894 in Thorntown, Indiana and that the person who will always know his address is his sister, Elizabeth Pettinger who lives at 432 South Oakland Street in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana.

Widowed Elizabeth Horner Pettinger died 1 July 1988 in at her residence in Winston-Salem, Forsyth, North Carolina at age 81 with a physician in attendence. Her burial was out of state.
