Shared note | In the 1880 US Federal Census for Uniontown, Vernon Township, Jackson, Indiana, 28-year-old sawyer Levi McCasland and his 28-year-old wife Elizabeth F have two children in their household, 6-year-old Erta and 2-year-old Early. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Vernon, Jackson, Indiana, 48-year-old widow Elizabeth McCaslin [McCasland] has in her household her daughter, 23-year-old Ertie M. Elizabeth has born five children but only one is living. The family is living in a rented house and has no visable means of support. Two of the preceeding statements are wrong. Elizabeth is not a widow as her husband Levi has remarried in Texas in 1898 and Ertie is not 23- but 26-years old. On 25 Feb 1904, James M Lewis, clerk of Jackson Circuit Court, Brownstown, Jackson, Indiana, issued a marriage license to Clarence Lewellyn and Anna [sic Erta] M McCasland. They were married on 28 Feb 1904 by D M Lett, Baptist Minister, who filed the return on 3 Mar 1904. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Crothersville, Vernon, Jackson, Indiana, 30-year-old Indiana-born Clarence and his 33-year-old Indiana-born wife Ertie [McCaslin or McCasland] Lewellyn have been married five years and have had two children, only one is living, 3-year-old Indiana-born Ruth. Also in this household is Ertie's mother 54-year-old Indiana-born widow [sic] Francis [Elizabeth F] McCasland, who has born five children but only Ertie is living. The family is living at Zulauf [?] Street in a house that Clarence owns, but with a mortgage. Clarence is a wagon driver for a saw mill, worked on 15 April 1910 and has had no months out of work in the past year. Elizabeth Francis is living on her "own income." All the adults can read, write and speak English In the 1920 US Federal Census for Vernon, Jackson, Indiana, 68-year-old Indiana-born widow [sic ] Francis McCassland [sic] is head of a household which includes her 38-year-old [sic] Indiana-born divorced daughter Erdie [sic] {McCasland] Lewyellyn [sic] and Erta's 8-year-old Indiana-born daughter Dorothy Lewellyn who has attended school in the past year. The family is living in a house that Francis owns, free of mortgage. Neither Francis nor Ertie has employment. Everyone can read, write and speak English. Everyone's parents were born in Indiana. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Grassy Fork, Jackson, Indiana, 64-year-old Indiana-born farmer Jason B and his 64-year-old Indiana-born wife Olive [Shutters] Waskom were married when they both were 19-years old [abt 1885]. Jason is doing "general farming" on land he owns and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has not served in the military. Jason's father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Indiana. Olive's parents were born in Indiana. Jason and Olive are living next door to their son, 25-year-old Indiana-born farm laborer Ray and his family, which consists of his wife, 19-year-old Indiana-born Dorothy [Lewellyn] Waskom, their Indiana-born children 2-year one-month old Mary L and 7-month old Billy R, and Dorothy's divorced mother, 56-year-old Indiana-born Ertie [McCasland] Lewellyn. This family is living in a rented house for which Ray pays $4 a month. Ray married Dorothy when he was 23- and she was 17-years old [abt 1928]. Ray has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day and has not served in the military. Everyone's parents were born in Indiana. All the adults in both households can read, write and speak English. In the 1940 US Federal Census for Grassy Fork, Jackson, Indiana, 35-year-old, Indiana-born Ray Waskom and his 29-year-old, Indiana-born wife, Dorothy [Lewellyn] Waskom have in their househouse their Indiana-born children, 12-year-old Mary Lou and 8-year-old Dale, and Dorothy's mother, 66-year-old, divorce, Ertie [McCasland] Lewellyn. The family is living in a rented house for which Ray pays $7 a month. They were living in the same place in 1935. Ray has completed high school. Dorothy has completed eighth grade. Mary Lou has completed sixth grade. Dale has completed first grade. Ertie has completed 5th grade. Ray is employed as a machine operator on county roads and has worked 48 weeks in the past year, earning $1,050. Dorothy is employed as a laborer in a canning factory and has worked 24 weeks in the past year, earning $150. No one has an outside source of income. |
