In the 1900 US Federal Census for North Vernon, Center, Jennings, Indiana, 52-year-old Ohio-born saloon keeper Henry Romine and his 32-year-old Ohio-born second wife [sic] Rose [Lee Russell] Romine have been married 14 years. Rose has borne six children, four of whom are living and in their household. These four by two fathers are 12-year-old Ohio-born Henry H [father-Charles Russell], 7-year-old Indiana-born Winifred, 4-year-old Indiana-born Florence and 1-year-old Indiana-born Clarence [father-Henry Romine]. Henry H has attended school 9 months of the past year. Also listed in their household are two of Henrys sons from his first marriage, 23-year-old Ohio-born William C and 18-year-old Ohio born Robert R. Both William and Robert are privates in the US Army.

In the 1910 US Federal Census for North Vernon, Center, Jennings, Indiana, 63-year-old Ohio-born Henery [sic] Romine and his 41-year-old Ohio-born wife Rose [Lee] Romine have been married 24 years. This is a second marriage for Henry [sic], but a first marriage for Rose [sic]. Rose has borne eight children, six of these children are living, and five are living with them. These children are 22-year-old Ohio-born Henry H, 14-year-old Indiana-born Florence, 11-year-old Indiana-born Clarence, 7-year-old Indiana-born Herman and 2-year-old Indiana-born Mildred. Henry's father is Charles Russell, the other four are Henry Romine's children. Winifred is missing from this household as she married Mort McCaslin in 1909. Florence, Clarence, and Herman have attended school in the past year. The family is living in a house at 218 Washington Street that Henry owns, free of mortgage. Henry is a butcher who owns his own shop. Henry H is a glass blower. Everyone except the two youngest children is literate. Everyone except the youngest, Mildred, speaks English. Henry's parents were born in the United States; Rose' parents were born in Ohio; the children's parents were born in Ohio.
