In the 1900 US Federal Census for Jordan, Jasper, Indiana, 38-year-old Indiana-born farmer William and his 27-year-old Indiana-born wife Cora S [maiden name unknown] Iliff have been married 9 years and have had three children, but only two are living. This is probably incorrect as the only child in their household is 7-year-old Indiana-born Stearns H, whose name was first recorded as Hugh and then crossed out. Stearns has attended school 7 months of the past year. William owns his farm, but with a mortgage. Everyone can read, write and speak English. Both William and Coras fathers were born in Ohio and their mothers in Indiana.

In the 1910 US Federal Census for Jordan, Jasper, Indiana, 48-year-old farmer William and his 38-year-old wife Cora [maiden name unknown] Iliff have been married 19 years and have had four children, but only two are living, 16-year-old Sterns [Stearns] and 6-year-old Mary. William, Cora and Stearns are literate. Stearns has not attended school in the past year. William is doing general farming on acreage that he rents. Both William and Coras fathers were born in Ohio and their mothers in Indiana.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Princeton, White, Indiana, 57-year-old Indiana-born farmer laborer William and his 48-year-old Indiana-born wife Cora [maiden name unknown] Iliff have in their household their 26-year-old Indiana-born son Hugh S [Stearns Hugh] and their 16-year-old daughter, Ellener S [Eleanor, recorded as Mary on the 1910 census]. Everyone can read and write English. The family is living in a house on a rented farm. Both William and Coras fathers were born in Ohio and their mothers in Indiana.

On 27 Apr 1942, when 49-year-old Stearns Hugh Iliff registers for the WWII draft, he states that his place of residence is Jordon, Jasper, Indiana, his mailing address is Rensselaer, Indiana R# 4, he was born in Jordan, Jasper, Indiana on 19 April 1893, he is a self-employed farmer in Jordon, Jasper, Indiana, and that the person who will always know his address is his sister, Mrs. Eleanor Ogle of Crown Point, Indiana, R# 2. He is white, 5 feet 10-1/2 inches, 200 pounds, with a light complexion, blue eyes and brown hair.

When Stearns Iliff died in July 1963, he was living in Indiana and his social security number was issued in Indiana in 1951-1952..
