Shared note

In the 1860 US Federal Census for Township 13 S Range 6 E, Pope, Illinois (Post Office Golconda), 32-year-old farmer W.H. Hanna has real estate valued at $1,500 and personal property valued at $700. He and his 29-year-old wife Mellissa [Margaret Melissa] have in their household their children, 8-year-old Belle, 6-year-old Florence, 3-year-old W.B. and one-month old Kate. Belle and Florence are attending school.

In the 1870 US Federal Census for Chillicothe, Livingston, Missouri (Post Office Farmersville) 42-year-old House Carpenter Wilson [Hamilton] Hanna has $1,200 worth of real estate and $200 worth of personal property. He and his 38-year-old wife Margaret [Margaret Melissa Winchester] have had an increase in the size of their family which now includes 18-year-old Belle, 16-year-old Mary [who must be Florence from the 1860 census], 13-year-old Willis, 10-year-old Melissa [who must be Kate from the 1860 census], 8-year-old Rena, 5-year-old Jessie, 3-year-old Ernest, and 10-month old Hugh. Willis and Melissa have attended school in the past year and can read but cannot write. All the children were born in Illinois except Hugh who was born in Missouri. This indicates that the Hannas moved from Illinois to Missouri between Ernests birth in 1867 and Hughs birth in 1869

In the 1880 US Federal Census for Chillicothe, Livingston, Missouri, 52-year-old carpenter Wilson H Hannah [Hanna] is a widower. He has in his household his children, 23-year-old carpenter Willis B, 20-year-old Katie (who is keeping house), 18-year-old Olive (who must be Rena from the 1870 census), 14-year-old Jessie, 12-year-old Ernest, and 10-year-old Hugh. None of the children have attended school in the past year.
