Shared note

In the 1900 US Federal Census for Marion, Jennings, Indiana, 69-year-old Moses Bridges is a farmer who owns the land he farms free and clear of mortgage. He and his second wife, 64-year-old Sarah E [Cox McCasland) Bridges have been married 31 years. Supposedly Sarah has borne no children, which is an error, as she has two children from her marriage with Richard M McCaslin and two from her marriage with Moses. Their youngest son, 24-year-old farmer Delbert [Adelbert], Delberts wife of 4 years, Flora and their son, 3-year-old Hobart are living with them. Living next door is Moses son from his first marriage, 41-year-old farmer Benjamin Bridges, Benjamins 35-year-old wife Ella [McCasland, who is Sarahs daughter by Richard McCasland], and their two children, 11-year-old school boy Carl and 4-year-old Homer. Benjamin and Ella have been married 11 years.

In the 1910 US Federal Census for Marion, Jennings, Indiana, 51-year-old Ben F [Benjamin F] Bridges and his 45-year-old wife Luella [Louella] have been married 22 years and have had two children, 21-year-old Carl and 14-year-old Homer. Both Carl and Homer are living with their parents. Carl is a machinist in an Automobile works and Homer is attending school.

On 5 June 1917, when 21-year-old Homer Bridges registers for the WWI draft, he states that he is living in Paris Crossing, Indiana. that he was born 19 Jun 1895 in Marion, Jennings, Indiana, that he is a farmer in Marion, Jennings, Indiana, that he is single but he claims his mother as a dependent, and that he has no previous military service. His physical description is medium height and weight, with blue eyes and light hair. He is not bald.

Homer served in WWI according to the 1930 census but no records seem to be available for this as The National Personnel Records Center in St Louis, Missouri burned in 1973, destroying about 80% of the records for Army personnel dicharged between 1 November 1912 and 1 January 1960. It is difficult to determine what records were lost in the fire as there were no indices for the records. They were simply filed in alphabetical order by groups for World War I, World War II and Post World War II.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Marion, Jennings, Indiana, 24-year-old farmer Homer Bridges owns the land he is farming. He and his 22-year-old wife Velma [Donnell] Bridges have in their household their son 18-month old John A Bridges, his mother 55-year-old widow Ella [Louella McCasland] Bridges and his cousin,10-year-old school boy nephew, J. D. McCaslin, son of Ellas brother John D McCasland or McCaslin.

In the 1930 US Federal Census for Marion, Jennings, Indiana, 34-year-old farmer Homer Bridges rents the land he is farming. He and his 32-year-old wife Velma [Donnell] Bridges have in their household their children, 11-year-old John R and 5-year-old Norma. Both children are attending school but Norma doesnt yet know how to read. Homer was 20 and Velma 19 when they married, which would put Velmas birth month later than April as that is the month the 1930 census was taken. Homer served in World War I. The family has a radio.

On 27 April 1942, when 46-year-old farmer Homer Bridges registers for the WWII draft, he and his wife Velma are living at RR1, Paris Crossing, Jennings, Indiana. They have no telephone. His physical description is white, 5 feet 6 inches, 155 pounds, with blue eyes, red hair and a light complexion. He has no other physical characteristics that will aid in identification.

Homer Bridges died in July 1981 at Paris Crossing, Jennings, Indiana 47270. His social security number was issued in Indiana.
