Shared note

On 9 Aug 1862, Daniel H Lory, Clerk of Jackson Circuit Court at Brownstown, Jackson, Indiana, issued a marriage licence to Richard M McCasland and Sarah E Cox. They were married on 14 Aug 1862 by Thomas Hill, M of Gos. [Minister of the Gospel] who filed the return on 6 Sep 1862.

Two children, Louella and John D McCaslin were born to them before Richard died 30 Dec 1867.

On 24 Nov 1869, John B Robertson, Clerk of Jackson Circuit Court at Brownstown, Jackson, Indiana, issued a marriage licence to Moris [sic] W Bridges and Sarah E [Cox] McCasland. They were married on 29 Nov 1869 by William Gillaspy, who when he filed the return on 9 Apr 1870, correctly identifies "Moris" as Moses Bridges.

In the the 1870 US Federal Census for Marion, Jennings, Indiana, 39-year-old farmer Moses Briges [Bridges] has $1,500 worth of real estate and $500 of personal property. He can read but not write. He and his 27-year-old wife (a second marriage for both of them) have a blended household of his children, 16-year-old Shelby (who works on the farm), 13-year-old Charles, 11-year-old Benjamin, 7-year-old Willie, and 3-year-old Thomas Bridges, her step-daughters, 13-year-old Alice [Mary Alice] and 11-year-old Cassey [Rachel Catherine] McCaslin and her children 5-year-old Ella and 3-year-old John McCaslin. Shelby, Charles, Benjamin, Cassey and Ella have attended school in the past year.

Forty eight-year-old farmer Moses Bridges was difficult to find In the 1880 US Federal Census for Marion, Jennings, Indiana, as his entry was listed under the name of Maser Briges, a combination of a transcription and a spelling error. He and his second wife, 44-year-old Sarah E have a combined household of his, hers and their children. Moses children by his first wife Melina are 23-year-old Charles, 21-year-old Benjamin, 15-year-old William and 12-year-old Thomas, mistakenly identified as Moses stepson by the census taker. Sarahs children by Richard McCaslin are 15-year-old Louella and 12-year-old John D McCaslin. Moses and Sarahs children are 8-year-old Jacob and 4-year-old Adelbert.

In the 1900 US Federal Census for Marion, Jennings, Indiana, 69-year-old Moses Bridges is a farmer who owns the land he farms free and clear of mortgage. He and his second wife, 64-year-old Sarah E [Cox McCasland) Bridges have been married 31 years. Supposedly Sarah has borne no children, which is an error, as she has two children from her marriage with Richard M McCaslin and two from her marriage with Moses. Their youngest son, 24-year-old farmer Delbert [Adelbert], Delberts wife of 4 years, Flora [Deputy] and their son, 3-year-old Hobart are living with them. Living next door is Moses son from his first marriage, 41-year-old farmer Benjamin Bridges, Benjamins 35-year-old wife Ella [McCasland, who is Sarahs daughter by Richard McCasland], and their two children, 11-year-old Carl and 4-year-old Homer. Sarahs parents were born in Kentucky.

Sarah Cox McCaslin Bridges died 6 Jul 1905 in Marion, Jennings, Indiana.
