In the 1900 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 44-year-old farmer James B Luyster [transcribed Luyeter] owns the land he farms free of mortgage. He and his 45-year-old wife, Hattie D [Harriet Ditmars McCaslin] have been married 22 years and have had five children. All five are living with them: 21-year-old Jessie, 17-year-old Homer B, 15-year-old Gilbert, 14-year-old Hattie and 6-year-old John T. Homer, Hattie and John have attended school seven months of the past year.

In the 1910 US Federal Census for Nineveh, Johnson, Indiana, 26-year-old Indiana-born farmer Will and his 23-year-old Indiana-born wife Hattie [Luyster] Mullendore have been married three years and have had no children. In their household are 16-year-old Indiana-born servant Christine Stucke and 26-year-old Indiana-born hired man Harry Emore. Will is farming rented land. Everyone can read, write and speak English. Everyone's parents were born in Indiana.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Nineveh, Johnson, Indiana, 36-year-old Indiana-born farmer William and his 32-year-old Indiana-born wife Hattie N [Luyster] Mullendore have in their household their Indiana-born children, 9-year-old Marion J [sic] and 7-year-old William O, and Hattie's mother 64-year-old Indiana-born widow Hattie D [McCaslin] Lyster [sic]. Marian and William O have attended school in the past year. Everyone can read, write and speak English. Everyone's parents were born in Indiana except Hattie D Luysters as her father was born in Kentucky and her mother in New Jersey. William seems to be renting the land he farms from his father 63-year-old Andrew Mullendore who is living next door and does own a farm, but is not engaged in farming.

In the 1930 US Federal Census for Nineveh, Johnson, Indiana, 46-year-old Indiana-born William and his 43-year-old Indiana-born wife Hattie N [Luyster] Mullendore were married when he was 24- and she was 20-years old. They have in their household their Indiana-born children, 19-year-old J Marian [sic] and 17-year-old William O, and Hattie's mother, 77-year-old Indiana-born widow Hattie D [Harriet Ditmars McCaslin] Luyster. The family is living on a farm that William T owns. They have a radio. William T is a farmer, J Marian is an assistant librarian in a college library, and William O is a waiter in a restaurant. Both J Marian and William O have attended school or college in the past year. William T, J Marian and William O have worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Everyone can read write and speak English. Everyone's parents were born in Indiana, except Hattie Luyster's as her father was born in Kentucky and her mother in New Jersey.

Hattie applied for her Social Security Number in Indiana in 1955.
