In the 1900 US Federal Census for Douglas, Jackson, Kansas 46-year-old Indiana-born farmer James T and his 37-year-old Missouri-born wife Rebecca E [Elizabeth Rebecca Smith Miller O'Neil] McCaslin have been married 18 years [sic, they've been married 5-1/2 years] and have had seven children [sic}. James and Elizabeth Rebecca's four Kansas-born children are 4-year-old twins James D and Henry C, 2-year-old Robert N, and new born Carrie A [Adeleide]. The three older children are from James's previous marriage to Jenny Smith and are 16-year-old Missouri-born Mary M, 14-year-old Missouri-born Hattie M and 7-year-old Kansas-born Peter A (whose birth year is incorrectly recorded as 1883). Mary, Hattie and Peter have attended school in the past year, Mary and Hattie for eight months and Peter for seven. James T, Elizabeth Rebecca, Mary and Hattie can read, write and speak English. James owns the land he is farming, free of mortgage. James T's father was born in Indiana and his mother in Tennessee, Elizabeth Rebecca's father was born in Indiana and her mother in Missouri. The children's father was born in Indiana and either of their mothers in Missouri.

In the 1905 Kansas State Census for Douglas, Jackson, Kansas, 51-year-old farmer J.T [James Thomas] McCaslin owns his farm free of mortgage. He and his second wife, 42-year-old L.R [Elizabeth Smith-Miller ONeill] McCaslin have in their household his son from his first marriage 12-year-old P.A. [Peter A], and their children, 9-year-old twins H.C [Henry] and J.L. [James], 7-year-old R.N. [Robert] and 5-year-old C.A [Adeleide].

In 1910, 56-year-old twice married James T McCaslin is recorded in two places in the census. Once, on 23 April in Douglas, Jackson, Kansas where James T is a farmer who owns his farm. Living with him are his son by his first wife Jennie Smith 17-year-old Peter A, his son by his second wife Elizabeth Smith-Miller ONeill 12-year-old Robert N, his oldest daughter by his first wife 26-year-old Mary M [McCaslin] Barnes and her 1-year 4-month old daughter Eula. Mary has been married for two years and has only the one child. Neither James wife Elizabeth nor Marys husband Lawrence are recorded in the household.

The second time James was recorded on the 1910 census was on 4 May in Justice, Travis, Texas, where James has a general farm which he owns. He and his 48-year-old wife Elizabeth [Smith-Miller ONeil] have been married 16 years and Elizabeth has borne five children and five are living. Four of these children are in their household, the 14-year-old twns James and Henry, 12-year-old Robert who was recorded on the April census in Kansas, and 10-year-old Adlade [Adelaide]. Elizabeths fifth child, D.N. ONeill is not listed in this household.

The 1915 Kansas State Census for Cedar, Jackson, Kansas, shows the return of this family to Kansas. Sixty one-year-old farmer J.T. [James T.] and his 52-year-old wife L. R. [Elizabeth R Smith-Miller ONeill] McCaslin have in their family their children, 19-year-old twins, Henry C and James L, 17-year-old Robert N, and 14-year-old Adalad [Adalaide]. James owns his farm free of mortgage.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Akron, Summit, Ohio, 24-year-old twins James and Henry McCaslin are living as boarders in the house of 34-year-old Frank and 24-year Gladys Nessoff. James is a mechanical engineer and Henry is a rubber worker for a rubber company, which is probably Firestone.
