Shared note

In the 1930 US Federal Census for Johnson, Scott, Indiana, Daisy [Fry McCaslin] Burkhart is a 47-year-old widow living on a farm she owns. Living with her are her 20-year-old farmer son Delmar and his 20-year-old wife, Emma [Brown]. Delmar and Emma have been married three years as they were 17 at the time of their marriage.

The Chronicle, Scottsburg, Indiana, Wednesday 21 Jun 1933 Mrs. Emma McCaslin Dies Mrs. Emma McCaslin, 23 years old died Thursday morning at her home on the John Brown farm, east of here, following an illness of several weeks with typhoid. She was the wife of Delmer [sic] McCaslin, who is also seriously ill with the disease. Her maiden name was Brown. Her parents died while she was quite young and she was placed in an orphans home. Later she came to make her home with Mrs. Charles G. Reynolds, where she remained for about four years preceding her marriage. She was a faithful wife and mother, who will be sadly missed not only by her family, but by the scores of friends she had made. Besides the husband, she is survived by two small children, a boy and a girl. She also leaves two brothers and two sisters, all living in Indianapolis. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the New Providence church with interment in the New Frankfort cemetery. Transcription by Lois Johnson
