Shared note | In the 1850 US Federal Census for Lancaster, Jefferson, Indiana, 35-year-old Kentucky-born farmer James G M Casland [McCaslin] owns $1000 worth of real estate. He and his 31-year-old Kentucky-born wife Sophie [Sophia Shrewsbury] M Casland [McCaslin] have in their household their Indiana-born children, 11-year-old Lucy, 6-year-old Wm T [William Tipton] , 4-year-old Vesta [Nancy Vestina] and one-year-old Fanny. The family is living next to the household of Sophias widowed mother, 57-year-old Connecticut-born Lucy [Smith] Shrewsbury and Sophias brother 17-year-old Indiana-born John H Shrewsbury. Lucy owns real estate worth $1,500. In the 1860 US Federal Census for Graham, Jefferson, Indiana, 44-year-old Jas [James] McCaslin is a farmer with $4,400 in real estate and $953 in personal property. He and his 40-year-old wife Sophia [Shrewsbury] McCaslin have their six surviving children in their household, 16-year-old William T, 14-year-old Nancy V, 11-year-old Fanny W, 7-year-old Collin H, 5-year-old Irvin and 3-year-old Emma. William, Nancy, Fanny and Collin have all attended school in the past year. In the 1870 US Federal Census for Montgomery, Jennings, Indiana, 25-year-old farmer Thomas Cox has no real estate, but $200 worth of personal property. He and his 23-year-old wife Vestina [Nancy Vestina McCaslin] Cox were married in February 1870. Thomas is living next to his parents, 46-year-old James and 45-year-old Minerva [Hall] Cox and his siblings, 23-year-old John, 20-year-old William, 14-year-old Judson, and 9-year-old Susan. In the 1880 US Federal Census for Huggins, Gentry, Missouri, 35-year-old farmer Thomas M Cox and his 33-year-old wife Vestina [Nancy Vestina McCaslin] Ccx have in their household their adopted son, 8-year-old Wm [William] Chambers, and Thomas 25-year-old unmarried carpenter brother, Milroy J. Cox. Williams mother Fannie McCaslin Chambers, who died in 1875, was Nancy Vestinas sister. Presumably Williams father John Chambers has also died, since he cant be found on the 1880 census. Nancy McCaslin Cox is mentioned as being "of Stanberry, Missouri" in her mother Sophia Shrewsbury McCaslin's 1895 obit. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Cooper, Gentry, Missouri, 55-year-old Tomas [Thomas] Cox and his 54-year-old wife Ves [Nancy Vestina McCaslin] have been married 30-years and have no children. This does not agree with the 1880 census which records that they adopted William Chambers. They have in their household a farm hand, 13 year old New York-born Christopher Kulty who has attended school eight months of the past year. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Cooper, Gentry, Missouri, 65-year-old farmer Thomas M Cox and his 63-year-old wife Bestina M [Nancy Vestina McCaslin] are living on Mt Pleasant-Alanthus Road. They are listed as having no children even though the 1880 census says they adopted William Chambers. Nancy Vestina Cox died in Stanberry, Gentry, Missouri on 19 Apr 1914, aged 68 years, 1 month, 25 days. She was female, white, married and a housewife. She was born 24 Feb 1846 in Dupont, Indiana. Her parents were James G McCaslin (born in Shelbyville, Kentucky) and Sophia Shrewsbury (born in Harodsburg, Kentucky). The informant was her brother Dr C H McCaslin, who was also her doctor. He certified that he had attended Nancy from 17-18 Apr 1914 and last saw her alive on the 18th and that she died at 5 a.m. on 19 Apr 1914 of mitral regurgitation of the heart. Nancy was buried 22 Apr in Stanbury, Missouri, undertaker John Pennington, of Stanbury. Nancy's death was recorded on 21 Apr 1914 by her brother C H McCaslin, registrar.
