In the 1930 US Federal Census for Bargersville, White River, Johnson, Indiana, 37-year-old truck driver Ray R and his 31-year-old wife Maple [Mable Cook] Utterback were married for the first time when he was 27 and she was 19 years old (this does not compute correctly unless she was married previously). They have in their household their daughter, 10-year-old schoolgirl Virginia C [sic]. Ray served in WWI and worked on the day before the census was taken. The family is living in a rented house on Carlisle Avenue for which they pay $10 a month.

Virginia Katherine [Utterback] Hamilton applied for her Social Security Number in Indiana before 1951.

Indiana State Department of Health, Certificate of Death, State No. 055122 Local No. 850 records that 88-year-old Virginia Katherine Hamilton (ne Utterback) died at the Homeviiew Health and Rehabilitation Center, Franklin, Indiana at 10:56 a.m. on November 28, 2008 of respretory failure caused by COPD; contributing factors were tobacco abuse and diabetes mellitis. She was born 17 Jan 1920 in Bargersville, Indiana to Ray Utterback and Maple Cook Utterback. She was female, white, had completed high school and had been a commercial sales representative. The informant was her daughter, Brenda Joy Jones. Virginia was buried in Hopewell Cemetery, funeral facility Swartz Family Community Mortuary.

Daily Journal, Franklin, Indiana, November 28, 2008, page 5 columns 2-3 FRANKLIN Virgina Katherine Hamilton Virginia Katherine Hamilton, 88, of Franklin, passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin. She was born Jan. 17, 1920, in Bargersville to Ray and Maple (Cook) Utterback. She married Lawrence Hugh Hamilton. He preceded her in death in 1994. [16 Nov 1993]. She was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church and a 50-year member of Union Village Order of the Eastern Star No. 584, Daughters of the American Revolution and Johnson County Home Economics Club, where she served as president. She also was active in the Johnson County 4-H fair. She had been a sales representative for Avon and had been employed by Roeders Printing in Franklin, Danner's store in Greenwood and various other retail establishments. She was a graduate of Center Grove High School. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Joy (Bob) Jones of West Chester, Ohio; a son, Jerry Hamilton of Hope; four grandchildren, Jan E. Hamilton of Hope, Jack D. Hamilton of Whiteland, Tammie M. Jones of West Chester and Holli R. Jones of Washington; five great-grandchildren, James Cox of Lafayette, JoAnna Hamilton of Hope, Lauren Hamilton, Abigail Hamilton and Austin Hamilton, all of Whiteland; a brother-in-law, John (Barbara) Afflerbach of Greenwood; a nephew, Kerry Afflerbach of Indianapolis; and a niece, Barbara Brockman of Franklin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hamilton; and a sister, Patricia Afflerbach. The Rev. David Lee will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 677 W. State Road 144, Franklin. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin, where the Union Village Order of the Eastern Star No. 584 will conduct a service at 6 p.m. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery.
