Shared note

In the 1870 US Federal Census for Clark, Johnson, Indiana, 42-year-old Mary A [McCaslin] Morgan is a widow with $7,000 worth of real estate and $400 worth of personal property. In her household are her daughters, 13-year-old Lou and 7-year-old Lauretta, and her 10-year-old son Carrie E [Carey] mistakenly identified as a female. Also in the household are a 23-year-old hired man, Frank Huff, and 4-year-old Hattie Carr, daughter of Mary Anns sister Elizabeth McCaslin Carr and Elizabeth's husband Samuel. All three Morgan children have attended school in the past year.

On 13 Jul 1890, Ed. H Miller [sic] of Pierce County, Washington, and Harriet H Carr, also of Pierce County, Washington, were married in Tacoma, Pierce, Washington by L H Schule, Minister of the Gospel. Witnesses were Wm [sic] Schubze [?] and Elizabeth Schubze [?].

In the 1900 US Federal Census for Denver, Arapahoe, Colorado, 50-year-old Germany-born Edward H Mueller and his 37-year-old Minnesota-born wife Hattie [Harriet Carr] Mueller have been married 12 years. Harriet has borne five children but only three are living. These three children are 9-year-old Oregon-born Annie L, 4-year-old Illinois-born Marie and 1-year-old Colorado-born Harry. The family is living in a rented house on Alcott Street. It does not have a house number but is between 650 and 660. Edward immigrated to the United States in 1885 and has been a US resident for 15 years. He is a naturalized citizen. His profession is stone mason and has been out of work three months of the past year. Everyone except baby Harry can read, write and speak English. Edward's parents were born in Germany; Harriet's parents were born in Indiana; the children's father was born in Germany and their mother in Minnesota. However, Edward wasn't living at home as he was in Kansas, Jackson, Missouri, living as a boarder in the residence of 44-year-old Germany-born Elizabeth Marugg. This census records that he had been out of work for eight months of the past year.

By order of the Jackson County Court, Harriet Carr Mueller was sent to the Jackson County Poor Farm on April 26, 1901 (case 3769). About a year later on Monday, 21 April 1902, she was committed to the State Lunatic Asylum #1 in Fulton, Jackson, Missouri on the testimony of J C Lee, who stated that her insanity was of less than one years duration, she was a resident of Jackson County and that she was indigent (case 4612), She was listed on both court documents as Mrs. E. T. Mueller. These records can be found at the state archives in Jefferson City, Missouri on Microfilm C10901 Volumes 37-39 dates 1901-1903. Page 464 for the court order to the Poor Farm. Page 283 for the court ordered commitment to the mental hospital.

E. T. Mueller [Harriet Carr Mueller] is listed as a patient in the 1910 US Federal Census for Fulton Ward 4 (State Hospital No. 1). The only other information given for her is that she is married.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Fulton (State Hospital No. 1-State Lunatic Asylum), 67-year-old [sic] E T. Mueller [transcribed as Muellez, Harriet Carr Mueller] is described as an inmate who is a married woman. She is literate and speaks English. Mrs E.T. Mueller [Harriet Carr Mueller] died at 1:20 am on 13 Feb 1936 of pulmonary tuberculosis in the State Hospital No. 1. Another contributing factor was senility. The reporting doctor was Jas. [sic] R Mulkey of Fulton, Missouri. She had lived in the hospital for 33 years, 9 months, and 25 days. The only things known about her were that she was white, married and female, nothing else. The informant was "Hospital Records" The undertaker was the Missosuri State Anatomical Board of Columbia, Missouri. The file number for her Missouri death certificate was 4857.
