In the 1850 US Federal Census for Tipton, Cass, Indiana, Kentucky-born Margaret McCaslin Carr is head of household and owns $800 worth of real estate. Her age is recorded as 37 rather than 46. She is fibbling a little as she has a 23 -year-old son. Living with her are her Indiana-born children, 23-year-old Samuel, 21-year-old Richard and 9-year-old Levi. Samuel and Richard are listed as persons over 21 who cannot read and write.

Levi Carr enlisted in Company B, 5th Minnesota Infantry on 10 Feb 1862, and was discharged on 10 Feb 1865 at Cairo, Illinois due to expiration of term of service.
