Shared note

In the 1850 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 19-year-old Allen McCaslin is living with his parents, 49-year-old Alexender and 47-year-old Elizabeth (Sellers) McCaslin and his siblings, 24-year-old John, 21-year-old Sarah, 14-year-old Emeline and 8-year-old Mary. He is a farmer.

In the 1860 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 29-year-old Allen McCaslin's farmstead is near that of his father, Alexander McCaslin, since their information is recorded on the same sheet of the census. Allen is a prosperous farmer witrh $5,600 in real estate and $1,000 in personal property. He and his wife, Mary R (Alexander) McCaslin have in their household 6-year-old James T, 2-year-old Margaret E and a 2-month old unnamed baby girl. This was a difficult census record to find as McCaslin was transcribed poorly as McCarline

The following McCaslins are listed in the US Civil War Draft Registration Records for the Sixth Congressional District in Indiana, Johnson County, Vol 2. They are living in the first half of Franklin Township. John C McCaslin, 25-years-old, white, farmer, married, born in Indiana, volunteer service, discharged; Allen F McCaslin, 33-years-old, white, farmer, married, born in Indiana; Gilbert McCaslin, 21-years-old, white, farmer, single, born in Indiana; David McCaslin, 28-years-old, white, farmer, single, born in Indiana; George McCaslin, 21-years-old, white, farmer, single, born in Indiana; volunteer service, discharged; William S McCaslin, 23-years-old, white, merchant, married, born in Indiana.

In Oct 1866, Allen and Mary were "dismissed' from First Presbyterian Church to go to Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas.

In the 1870 US Federal Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 39-year-old Allen F McCaslin is a properous farmer with $9,000 worth of real estate and $800 worth of personal property. He and his 38-year-old wife Mary [Alexander] McCaslin have in their household 16-year-old James, 12-year-old Margaret E, 6-year-old Rebecca F, 5-year-old George L and 1-year-old Jessie. the unnamed baby girl is missing and presumed to have died. All the children were born in Indiana except Jessie who was born in Kansas. This would indicate that the family moved to Kansas between 1866 and 1869.

In the 1875 Kansas State Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 45-year-old farmer A.F.[Allen F] McCaslin has $10,000 worth of real estate and $800 worth of personal property. He and his 44-year-old wife M.R. [Mary R Alexander] McCaslin have in their household their children, J.T. [James T], 17-year-old M.E [Margaret E], 12-year-old F [Rebecca Frances], 10-year-old G.L. [George Lincoln] and 6-year-old J.A. [Jessie]. , In the 1880 US Federal Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 46-year-old [he should be 48] A F McCaslin is farmer living at 381 Monroe Street with his family. He and his 46-year-old [she should be 48] wife Mary [Alexander] McCaslin have in their household 26-year-old James (cigar dealer with a cold the day the census taker arrived), 21-year-old Margret [Margaret E] whose profession is given as "printer", 16-year-old Fannie [Rebecca F], 15-year-old Lincoln [George L] who is listed as a paper carrier, and 11-year-old Jessie. Fannie, Lincoln and Jessie have all attended school in the past year. This census record was hard to find as McCaslin is transcribed as Mc Leason.

Kansas, Wills and Probate records, Vol. 30, page 343, Letters of Administration, Shawnee County, records on 28 Feb 1985 that Mary R McCaslin is administratrix of Allen F McCaslin's estate.
