He owns real estate worth $300 and personal property worth $1,031. This census state that Harvey was born in Kentucky but that is incorrect. His 37-year-old Indiana-born wife Hannah A [Utter] McCaslin is managing the household which contains their children, 14-year-old Indiana-born Mary A, 9-year-old Iowa-born Flora B [Belle] and 3-year-old Kansas-born Milton and two unrelated people, 23-year-old C.S. Teacher Alan(?) J Barker, and 13-year-old Arkansas-born Samuel Henry who is black.s2847

In the 1885 Kansas State Census, 62-year-old Indiana-born nurseryman Harvey and his 57-year-old Indiana-born wife H A [Hannah A Utter] McCaslin have in their household their 23-year-old Kansas-born printer son Milton and Miltons wife 19-year-old Missouri-born L [Lee D Mayberry] McCaslin.The McCaslins had come to Kansas from Iowa, but Lee had come from Missouri. However, Milton has an entry in the "Typographical Journal" Volume 37, published in 1910 which indicates that he died on 13 Oct 1910 at the Union Printers Home in Colorado Springs.s5536 Here is his obit: Notes From the Union Printers Home, page 526 Milton D McCaslin died of tuberculosis in the hospital of the Home institution on October 14, death intervening after a brief residence, he jour- neying from San Francisco and making his advent to the Home on August 25. Deceased was as- signed to one of the house tents soon after his ad- mission, and his condition gave promise of an early improvement, but a change due to reaction of the malady necessitated his removal to a room in the hospital a month later, and from which he never rallied. Deceased was 48 years old and was en- tered on the Home register as a member of the Typo- graphical Union No. 21. His remains were for- warded to the Pacifice coast city for interment. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. B. Conwell, were held in the undertaking parlors of Hallett & Baker on October 19, with George W. Martin (At- lanta), John H. Kuhlman (Cincinnati) and An- drew Gilchrist and Charles A. Gallagher (New York) officiating as pallbearers, and burial was made in the International Union's new block in Evergreen cemetery. The widow and child of de- ceased, as also a representitive gathering of Home residents, were in attendance at the obsequies.s5536
