Shared note

In the 1880 US Federal Census for Vinton, Benton, Iowa, 70-year-old Elizabeth King Gilchrist is living with her 40-year-old lawyer son George, his wife, Mary S, and their children, 14-year-old Ethelwin, 13-year-old Robert N, 10-year-old Mary and 7-year-old Emma.

Obituary from findagrave.com, submitted by colette harrison. In the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Gilchrist, Vinton loses one of its oldest and most highly esteemed citizens. Her home has been among this people for a third of a century. Of her relatives of her own generation only one brother survives, the Rev. John C. King, now residing at Wheaton, Ill. Of her children, Geo M. Gilchrist, Esq. and Mrs. J.S. Dunning of Jefferson only remain. Mrs Gilchrist was a life-long member of the Presbyterian church and to the end loved the house of the lord. She was able to attend church on the 15th of December. On Monday morning, Jan. 6, 1890, at 4 o'clock she gently fell asleep, aged a little more than 81 years. Her memory is blessed. The funeral service was held at the residence of Judge Gilchrist Wednesday afternoon. [Eagle 1-8-1890]
