Shared note

The transcriber of the 1880 US Federal Census for Chetopak Neosho County Kansas transcribed the census takers almost illegible handwriting as Carie. However the child in this age range is named Grace according to the Family Bible Records of Johnson County and she is named correctly in the 1885 Kansas State Census.

In the 1880 US Federal Census for Chetopa, Neosho, Kansas, 43-year-old John McCaslin and his 37-year-old wife Carie [Carrie Sellers] have in their household their children, 15-year-old Otis, 13-year-old Burdes [Bertie], 9-year-old Carrie [Grace], 7-year-old Sylvia, 4-year-old Ella [Nellie Pearl], and 1-year-old Chance [Chauncey].All the children except Ella and Chauncey are attending school.

In the 1885 Kansas State Census, 47-year-old carpenter J. C. McCaslin and his 41-year-old wife Carrie have in their household their children, 20-year-old clerk Otis, 18-year-old Bertus L, 15-year-old Grace, 12-year-old Sylvia, and 8-year-old Nellie.

Johns questionaire in his pension application, filled out on 9 May 1898 states that his four living children are Otis, Bertis, Sylvia and Nellie. This indicates that Grace and Chauncey have died before that date.
