Shared note

Elizabeth, known to me as Cousin Liz, baked my wedding cake (13 August 1955). My grandmother, Christine McCaslin Brown, always referred to her as a shirt-tail relative and I never knew the relationship until I found her here. She was my grandmothers second cousin once removed, which would make her my third cousin, once removed. Yes, that is shirt-tail, but a very nice shirt-tail. She was a very pleasant person.

Elizabeth Mildred McCaslin was born at 5:40 p.m. on 17 Aug 1916 in St Barnabus Hospital. Her parents are 25-year-old, Detroit, Michigan-born Harvey McCaslin, electrician, and 19-year-old Minneapolis, Minnesota-born Edna Hauser, housewife. This is Edna's first child. Their residence is 2505 Fremont Ave No, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. She was delivered by Dr D.A. Locke.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for the 10th Ward, Minneapolis, , Hennepin, Minnesota, Charles, at 28-year-old electrician is listed by his middle name, Harvey. In his household at 3214 James Avenue are his 22-year-old wife, Edna [Hauser] McCaslin, and their 3- year 5-month old daughter, Mildred (Elizabeth Mildred). He owns the house but has a mortgage on it.

In the 1930 US Federal Census for the 3rd Ward, Minneapolis, , Hennepin, Minnesota, Charles McCaslin, a 37-year-old traveling salesman for a battery company, is living with his mother, Edna [Cook] Mccaslin, the 63-year-old widowed head of household, in a rented house at 2112 Emerson Avenue North. Living with them are Edna's 35-year-old widowed daughter, Helen McCaslin Menk, Charles 23-year-old second wife, Mary [Stocieck] McCaslin, and Charles' 13-year-old daughter from his first marriage, Elizabeth McCaslin.

In the 1940 US Federal Census for Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, 22-year-old, Minnesota-born Donald Jackson and his 23-year-old, Minnesota-born wife Elizabeth have in their household their one-year-old, Minnesota-born son, David. The family is living a rented house at 1100 23rd Ave for which Donald pays $15 in rent. They were living in the same place in 1935. Both Donald and Elizabeth have completed four years of high school. Donald is employed as an electrician for a wholesale grocery, has worked 52 weeks in 1939 and 46 hours in the past week, earning $1,000 in salary or wages. Elizabeth is a housewife who is not seeking employment. Neither have an outside source of income.

Elizabeth McCaslin married Donald Jackson about 1938 or 1939. They were married before 1 Sep 1941 when 25-year-old Elizabeth applied for her Social Security number. The information on the application reads [a little illegibly] Elizabeth McCaslin Jackson, residence 2122 Ilion Ave No, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Scand???board shop [place of employment? this is not what is asked for in this field.] She is female, white and married and currently working for Mrs H W Cook of Ferndale, Wayzata, Minnesota. Her last full time job was as a fry cook for Belle Lunch and her last day there was 28 Jul 1941. She was paid by the week.

Elizabeth McCaslin Jackson and Donald Jackson were divorced in about 1956.

Elizabeth married Charles Muth about 1959, but I remember her as Cousin Liz with no last name in 1955 when she baked my gorgeous wedding cake. The implication was that she did this professionally.

Elizabeth M Muth, born 17 Aug 1916, lived at 6221 Shingle Creek Pkwy, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota 55430-2122 [Bloomington, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis]. This is from the U.S. Public Records Index, Volume 2, covering 1950 to 1993.

Elizabeth M Muth, born 17 Aug 1916, died 23 Nov 1998 at the age of 82. Her last address of record was Cameron, Barron, Wisconsin 54822. She had applied for her Social Security number in Minnesota before 1951.

Family memories: One is that Cousin Liz frequently visited the house in which all of us [the extended Brown-Bishop family] lived from 1935 to 1939 in the middle of the depression. My Dad had the only job and he supported my grandparents, Fred and Christine [McCaslin] Brown, my mother's siblings, Betty, Marion and Jim Brown, and, of course, my mother and me, and my younger sister when she came along. Cousin Liz was one of the patient adults who would read to me on demand (I was an indulged only child in a family of adults for 2-1/2 years until my sister arrived, and pretty indulged after that, too). Cousin Liz dated my Uncle Jim a couple of times. After my parents, my sister, and I moved out, I remember seeing her occasionally at family gatherings with a girl children in tow, one of whom was about five years younger than I am. And then, as mentioned several times, there was that gorgeous wedding cake
