In the 1900 US Federal Census for Bucyrus Ward 3, Crawford, Ohio, Charles McCaslin [Sr} is a 35-year-old minister (presumably Presbyterian) who has been married for nine years to Edna [Cook McCaslin], age 33, born in Iowa, They have two children, Harvey (Charles Harvey Jr, age 8, born in Michigan) and Helen (age 7, born in Ohio). From the places of his childrens births, it can be deduced that the family was in Michigan in 1890 and in Ohio in 1891. In the 1905 Minnesota State Census, 41-year-old Oregon-born Charles H McCaslin [Sr], his 38-year-old Iowa born wife Edna [Cook] McCaslin and their children, 13-year-old Michigan-born Charles Harvey and 12-year-old Ohio-born Helen Elizabeth McCaslin, have been living at 1016 21st Avenue North for two months, which also is the same amount of time that they have lived in Minnesota. Charles is the pastor of the Highland Park Presbyterian. Charles father was born in Indiana and his mother in Iowa. Ednas parents were both born in New York. The children's father was born in Oregon and their mother in Iowa In the 1910 US Federal Census for 3rd Ward, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, Charles (age 45) and Edna (age 43) and their three children, Harvey C (Charles Harvey Jr, age 18), Helen E (age 16) and Margaret E (age 4) are living at 2119 Dupont Ave W. Charles and Edna have been married 19 years. All three of their children are living. in the Polaris Volume II, June 1911 (North High School Year Book, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota), Helen Elizabeth McCaslin's entry next to her photo on page 30 reads: In the 1920 US Federal Census for 3rd Ward, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, 55-year-old, Oregon-born Charles McCaslin and his 53-year-old, Iowa-born wife, Edna [Cook] McCaslin have in their household their daughters, 26-year-old, Ohio-born Helen and 13-year-old Minnesota-born Margaret. The family is living at 2204 Bryant Avenue. Charles is a minister, Edna has no occupation, Helen is a clerk at high school and Margaret has attended school in the past year. Everyone is literate and speaks English. Charles' parents were born in Indiana; Edna's father was born in Oregon [sic] and her mother in New York; Helen and Margaret's father was born in Oregon and their mother in Iowa. Helen was living at 2423 Emerson Avenue North in 1925 when her husband Walter F Menk died. In the 1930 US Federal Census for the 3rd Ward, Minneapolis, , Hennepin, Minnesota, Helen McCaslin Menk , a 35-year-old widow and Ednas daughter, is living with her mother Edna [Cook] McCaslin, who is the 63-year-old widowed head of household. They are iving in a rented house at 2112 Emerson Avenue North. along with Ednas 37-year-old son, Charles McCaslin, a traveling saleman for a battery company, his 23-year-old second wife, Mary [Stodieck] McCaslin, and Charles' 13-year-old daughter from his first marriage, Elizabeth. In the 1940 US Federal Census for Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, 46-year-old, Ohio-born Helen [McCaslin] Menk is living in a rented duplex at 2112 Emerson for which she pays $25 a month. She was living at this address in 1935. She has completed four years of college and is employed as a general office worker for the Board of Education. Helen worked 35 hours in the last work week and 52 weeks in the past year, earning $1,200 in wages or salary. She has no outside source of income. Associated with the Minneapolis, Minnesota Board of Education in 1946. On 23 July 1947, Helen sailed on the Mauritania from Southampton, England, arriving in the port of New York on 29 Jul 1947. Her address in the US was given as 1200 W Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her birthdate was given as 19 April 1893 and her birthplace as Bucyrus, Ohio. She was probably coming back from visiting her sister, Margaret Edna McCaslin Hodder, who was living in London. In the 1953 Minneapolis City Directory, Helen M Menk (widow of Walter) is supervisor for the public schools. Her residence is 4215 Nicollet Ave Apt 1. Margaret McCaslin Hodder, Helen's sister, moved to New Zealand to join her husband. Apparently Helen moved to be near her sister. Menk, Helen Elizabeth McCaslin. 11 Arthur Gr.
