Indiana McCaslins

In the 1900 US Federal Census for Bucyrus Ward 3, Crawford, Ohio, Charles McCaslin [Sr} is a 35-year-old minister (presumably Presbyterian) who has been married for nine years to Edna [Cook McCaslin], age 33, born in Iowa, They have two children, Harvey (Charles Harvey Jr, age 8, born in Michigan) and Helen (age 7, born in Ohio). From the places of his childrens births, it can be deduced that the family was in Michigan in 1890 and in Ohio in 1891.

In the 1905 Minnesota State Census, 41-year-old Oregon-born Charles H McCaslin [Sr], his 38-year-old Iowa born wife Edna [Cook] McCaslin and their children, 13-year-old Michigan-born Charles Harvey and 12-year-old Ohio-born Helen Elizabeth McCaslin, have been living at 1016 21st Avenue North for two months, which also is the same amount of time that they have lived in Minnesota. Charles is the pastor of the Highland Park Presbyterian. Charles father was born in Indiana and his mother in Iowa. Ednas parents were both born in New York. The children's father was born in Oregon and their mother in Iowa

In the 1910 US Federal Census for 3rd Ward, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, Charles (age 45) and Edna (age 43) and their three children, Harvey C (Charles Harvey Jr, age 18), Helen E (age 16) and Margaret E (age 4) are living at 2119 Dupont Ave W. Charles and Edna have been married 19 years. All three of their children are living.

On 20 Sep 1915, 24-year-old C H McCaslin, Jr, of 2204 Bryant Ave No [Minneapolis], applied for a Marriage License to marry 18-year-old Edna Hauser. They were married on 21 Sep 1915.

Elizabeth Mildred McCaslin was born at 5:40 p.m. on 17 Aug 1916 in St Barnabus Hospital. Her parents are 25-year-old, Detroit, Michigan-born Harvey McCaslin, electrician, and 19-year-old Minneapolis, Minnesota-born Edna Hauser, housewife. This is Edna's first child. Their residence is 2505 Fremont Ave No, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. She was delivered by Dr D.A. Locke.

On 5 Jun 1917, a 25-year-old Charles registered for the WWI draft. His card states that he is living at 2505 Fremont Avenue North in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is an electrician for the Ford Motor Company. He has a wife and child, and claims an exemption from the draft on the grounds that he is the sole support of his family. Charles is of medium height and slender build with hazel eyes and brown hair. He is not bald, but he has suffered the loss of one eye.

Baby girl McCaslin was stillborn at 9 p.m. on 22 Jul 1917 at home. Her parents are 25-year-old, Michigan-born Harvey McCaslin, electrician, and 20-year-old Minnesota-born Edna Hauser, housewife. This is Edna's second child; the first [Elizabeth Mildred] is living. Their residence is 2505 Fremont Ave No, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. She was delivered by Dr D.A. Locke.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for the 10th Ward, Minneapolis, , Hennepin, Minnesota, Charles, at 28-year-old electrician is listed by his middle name, Harvey. In his household at 3214 James Avenue are his 22-year-old wife, Edna [Hauser] McCaslin, and their 3-year, 5-month-old daughter, Mildred (Elizabeth Mildred). He owns the house but has a mortgage on it.

Edna Hauser McCaslin and Charles Harvey McCaslin divorced before 3 Jul 1926 as that is the date that Edna married her second husband, 35-year-old Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota-resident, Allen B Shultis .

In the 1930 US Federal Census for the 3rd Ward, Minneapolis, , Hennepin, Minnesota, Charles McCaslin, a 37-year-old traveling salesman for a battery company, is living with his mother, Edna [Cook] Mccaslin, the 63-year-old widowed head of household, in a rented house at 2112 Emerson Avenue North. Living with them are Edna's 35-year-old widowed daughter, Helen McCaslin Menk, Charles 23-year-old second wife, Mary [Stodieck] McCaslin, and Charles' 13-year-old daughter from his first marriage, Elizabeth McCaslin.

In the 1936 Minneapolis City Directory, C Harvey McCaslin is a electrician. He and his wife Mary [Stodieck] McCaslin are recorded as living at 1609 DuPont Ave N.

In the 1938 Minneapolis City Directory, C Harvey McCaslin is a salesman. He and his wife Mary [Stodieck] McCaslin are recorded as living at 1609 DuPont Ave N. Mary also has a listing as Mrs Mary McCaslin assistant at I L Cameron. And again her residence is 1609 DuPont Ave N.

In the 1944 Minneapolis City Directory, Chas [sic] H McCaslin is an eletrician for North Star Woolen Mill Co. He and his wife Mary E [Stodieck] McCaslin are recorded as living at 1213 23rd Ave N, Apt 3. Mary also has a listing as Mrs Mary E McCaslin, telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. And again her residence is 1213 23rd Ave N, Apt 3.

In the 1946 Minneapolis City Directory, Chas [sic] H McCaslin is an eletrician for North Star Woolen Mill Co. He and his wife Mary E [Stodieck] McCaslin are recorded as living at 2522 Emerson Ave N. Mary also has a listing as Mrs Mary E McCaslin, telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. And again her residence is 2522 Emerson Ave N.

Fifty-six-year, eleven-month, 23-days-old Charles Harvey McCaslin died on 10 Aug 1948 at home (2522 Emerson Ave N) of a ruptured aorta in the root due to a dissecting aneurysm (coroner Russell R Heim M.D.). He'd lived in Minneapolis for 43 years and he was employed as an electrician at the time of his death. He was born 17 Aug 1891 in Detroit, Michigan to Charles H McCaslin (birthplace Salem, Oregon) and Edna Cook (birthplace Decorah, Iowa). The informant was his 41-year-old wife, Mary McCaslin of 2522 Emerson Ave N. He was cremated and his ashes buried at Sunset Memorial Park (2250 St. Anthony Blvd, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota) on 16 Aug 1948.
