Shared note

John came to Johnson County in 1828 and settled east of Greenwood. With him was his brother, George McCollough and a Mr. McAlpin, father of Robert McAlpin..

John and Mary A.[McCaslin] McCullough (note census takers spelling of their last name) appear on the 1850 US Federal census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana with five children, Henry (age 18 and a labourer) Ann E (age 14), Nancy J (age 11), Mary E (age 9) and William B (age 7/12). Since Mary Ann isonly 28, she cannnot the mother of the four oldest children, and is not. They are from Johns first marriage to Sarah Whitenack. William would be Mary Ann McCaslin McColloughs child.

In the the 1860 Census the McCollough family is still living in Franklin, Johnson, Indiana. Ann E. McCullough, age 23, is the only child from Johns first marriage still living at home. Mary Ann has born two more children, Frank M (age 8) and Julia (age 5) in addition to William (age 10).

In the 1870 US Federal Census for Franklin Ward 1, Johnson, Indiana, the census taker spelled their last name as McCullough. Mary A [McCaslin] (age 49, born in Kentucky, and keeping house) and John McCullough (age 60, born in Tennessee and a butcher), have in their household their three children, William B (age 20 and a druggist), Frank M (age 18 and a day laborer) and Julia (age 15). All three children were born in Indiana.

In the 1880 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, a paralized 71-year-old John McCollough is living with his son-in-law Harvey C Voris and daughter Julia McCollough Voris and their children, 3-year-old William R and 5-month old Marcia. He is listed as a widower.
