Shared note

On 20 Oct 1834, 7-year-old George F and 4-year-old Esther McCaslin, minor children of David Wason McCaslin who had died in 1830, purchased (had purchased for them) for cash, the East half of the North-east quarter of Section twenty-six in Township thirteen North of Range four East in the District of lands subject to sale and Indianapolis Indiana. This was purchased as tenants in common, and not as joint tenants. This purchase took place shortly after the marriage of Jane King McCaslin to Cornelius Hutton.

The transcription of George's marriage to Almanda gives both of their last names as McCasland. This is incorrect as the record of the marriage license gives his last name as McCaslin and hers as McCasland. However, this is a marriage of first cousins.

In the 1850 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, George F (recorded as George W by the census taker) McCaslin is a 22-year-old farmer with property worth $3,200. He has in his household his 24-year-old wife, Amanda [Almanda McCasland] and Almandas brothers, 29-year-old Alexander McCasland (who is a carpenter born in Indiana) and 33-year-old Lemuel McCasland (who is a laborer born in Kentucky). The brothers last name is recorded as McCaslin rather than McCasland.

On 31 October 1851, Jane [King McCaslin] and Cornelius Hutton, with her children, George F and Esther McCaslin, Cornelius children by his first wife Alli Wren and their children, Sarah and Esther Hutton, were dismissed by letter from The First Presbyterian Church of Franklin. They moved to Jasper County, Indiana.

George F McCaslin died 8 May 1855 and was buried in Welsh Cemetery, Rensselaer, Jasper, Indiana. (Find A Grave Memorial# 84806245).
