Shared note

David Wasson McCaslin was born to David Wasson McCaslin and Esther Baker Shillideay on 27 Aug 1799 in Mercer County, Kentucky

David Wason McCaslin and Jane Vanarsdall King marry 7 Jan 1822 in Kentucky.

David and Jane McCaslin are listed in Early Johnson County Landowners Book A Johnson County

On 20 Jan 1828, David McCaslin purchased for cash "the East half of the North East corner of section twentyone in Township twelve North, of Range four East in the District of lands offered for sale at Indianapolis, Indiana, containing Eighty acres.

From History of Johnson County Indiana 1888: "The history of the Presbyterian Church in Franklin dates from the 30th day of November 1824. In what house the little congregation met to engage in public worship on the occasion of the organization is not known, but it is not unfair to presume that it was the old log court house. The record chronicling the organization reads as follows: Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, November 30, 1824. This certifies that after public worship, the following persons, who were members of the Presbyterian Church, came forward and were, by administration of the subscriber, with prayer, constituted a Church of Christ, which was by agreement, called Franklin: George and Eleanor King, Joseph and Nancy Young and David McCaslin. The members proceeded to choose George King and David McCaslin to the office of ruling elders, who were ordained to that office after a sermon by the Rev. George Bush. The session then received Jane McCaslin a member of the church on examination. (Signed) Rev. John M. Dickey."

In the 1830 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, David Wason McCaslin is recorded as Woslin McCaslin. The identification of Woslin as David Wason is based on his neighbors as they as are those that Judge Banta records as having land next to him in the History of Johnson County. The ages and number of people in his household also matches as he has one boy under 5 (George Franklin) one male between 20 and 30 (himself) and one female also between 20 and 30 (his wife, Jane King McCaslin). David is also recorded as Wossen or Wossan in Herriot Palmer's "The first Presbyterian Church of Franklin, Indiana. The is probably to avoid confusion with his father who seems to have been consistantly referred to as David.

David Wason McCaslin died 17 Jun 1830 in Franklin, Johnson, Indiana.
