In the 1900 US Federal Census for Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, 48-year-old Indiana-born Eaton and his 44-year-old Indiana-born wife Nora [Elzora A Winchester] Barnes have been married 28 years and have had three children, all of whom are living. One of their children, 22-year-old Indiana-born Myrtle is living with them in a rentied house at 850 Virginia Avenue. Eaton is a machinist and Myrtle is a bookbinder. Both have had no months out of work in the past year. Everyone in the family can read, write and speak English.

One of their children, 33-year-old Indiana-born divorced Myrtle Barnes Eden is living with them as is her daughter 4-year-old Indiana-born Anna F. Myrtle has born only this one child. The family is living at 291 State Avenue which Eaton owns, free of mortgage. Eaton is employed as a wood-worker in a furniture manufacturing factory and was out of work on 15 Apr 1910. He was out of work 26 weeks of the past year. Myrtle is a bookbinder and was at work on 15 Apr 1910. She has had no weeks out of work in the past year.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, 67-year-old Indiana-born Eaton and his 64-year-old Indiana-born wife Nora [Elzora Winchester] Barnes are renting a house at 1304 Girard Street. The family is living at 311 Eleventh Street in a house for which William pays $75.00 rent a month. They don't own a radio. Nora was married for the first time when she was 17-years old. This is a second marriage for William as he was married for the first time at 21-years old, while Myrtie was married for the first time at 23-years old. Both William and Lawrence work as laundry men and have worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. William is a veteran of WWI. Everyone can read, write and speak English. William's parents were born in the United States, Myrtie's father in the United States and her mother in Indiana. Nora's parents were born in Indiana. Lawrence's parents were born in Pennsylvania and Indiana [sic].
