The Franklin Democrat, Friday, June 17, 1892 The marriage of A. N. Smith, of Brinkwater, Ohio, and Josie McCas- lin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wasson McCaslin, took place on Wednesday evening, at bride's home near Hope- well, in the presence of about seventy- five relatives and friends. Rev. L. P. Marshall, officiated. The bride was attired in brocade India silk, trimmed in chiffon lace and carried in her hands a bouquet of roses. The groom wore the conventional black. After the ceremony congratulations were ex- tended and choice refreshments served. The presents were numerous and useful. The newly married pair left on the night train for Cleveland, Ohio, for a short visit among the groom's relatives.

In the 1900 US Federal Census for Oxford, Johnson, Iowa, 36-year-old Ohio-born minister Atherton M [sic] and his 43-year-old Indiana-born wife Mary J [McCaslin] Smith have been married for eight years and have had no children. They are living in a rented house on William and renting rooms to three sectionhands, 40-year-old German-born William King, 16-year-old Iowa-born William Branch and 25-year-old Iowa-born William Miller. Atherton's father was born in New York and his mother in Connecticut; Mary Josephine's parents were born in Indiana.
