Shared note

She could not read nor write in 1824 and 1830 as she signed Court Indentures with a mark, however by 1870 she had learned to do both as indicated in the 1870 census.

In the 1810 US Federal Census for Shelby County, Kentucky, Samuel Sellers household consists of one male 26 to 44 (himself) 5 females under 10 (Polly, Betsy and Sarah plus two unidentified girls), one female between 10 and 15 (Abigail) and one between 26 to 44 (his wife Sally).

In the 1820 US Federal Census for Scott County, Indiana, Samuel Sellers household consists of one male under 10 (Samuel Jr), one male older than 45 (himself), two females under 10 (Cynthia and Lucinda), one between 10 and 16 (Sarah), two between 16 and 26 (Polly and Betsy) and one between 26 and 45 (his wife Sally). The Sellers family is living in the vicinity of the household headed by Elisabeth McCaslin as they are on adjoining pages of the census.

In the 1830 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, David McCaslin has in his household one male under 5 (Wosson), two males from 5 to 10 years old (has one son, Harvey, and one daughter, Elizabeth in this age range), one male 30 to 40 (himself) and one female 20 to 30 years old (his wife, Polly). This information does not seem to be for the other David McCaslin as the ages of the children match less well for him; he had one son and an unborn child at the time of his death in June 1830.

In the 1840 US Federal Census for Township not stated, Johnson County, Indiana, David McCaslin (recorded as McAslin) has in his household one male between 5 and 10 (David A.), two males between 10 and 15 (Wosson and John W), one male between 15 and 20 (Harvey), one male between 40 and 50 (himself), one female under 5 (Jane), and one female between 30 and 40 (his wife, Polly). Three people are employed in farming; they would be David Wason and probably his two oldest sons, Harvey and Wosson.

In the 1850 census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 52-year-old Kentucky-born David and his 49-year-old Kentucky-born wife Mary [Polly Sellers} have in their household their Indiana-born children, 21-year-old farmer Wasson [sic], 20-year-old farmer John, 16-year-old farmer David and 10-year-old Sarah J [Sarah Jane]. He is a prosperous farmer with real estate valued at $5,000. Wosson also owns personal property worth $1400.

In the 1860 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, David, Polly (his wife), David (his 26-year-old son) and Jane (his 20-year-old daughter) are all in the household. He is a prosperous farmer with property valued at $9,800 and personal estate of $3,000. His farmstead is next to the "Poor House".

In the 1870 census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, David, his wife, Polly (now entered as Mary), and their daughter Jane are all in the household. He still is a properous farmer as his property is now valued at $12,000 and his personal estate at $5,000. He can read and write. Janes age (his daughter) is given as 26 whereas 10 years ago she was 20.
