The 1940 US Federal Census for Lingle, Goshen, Wyoming records 36-year-old, Missourie-born Ellis Kelley, his 35-year-old, Nebraska-born wife Inex [Hise} Kelley and their children, Wyoming-born 9-year-old Allen, Nebraska-born 7-year-old Evelyn and Nebraska-born 6-year-old Richard. The family is living in a house that Ellis owns, worth $2,000. They were living in rural Scottsbluff [sic] County, Nebraska in 1935. Eliis has completed two years of high school. Inez has completed two years of college. Allen has completed fourth grade. Evelyn has completed second grade. Richard has not attended school. Ellis is employed as an auto mechanic, has worked 60 hours in the past week and 51 weeks of the past year, earning $1,700. He does not have an outside source of income. Inez is a housewife who is not looking for work. Allen and Evelyn are students.
US Social Security Application and Claims index records that when Jean Kelley applied for her Social Security Number in May 1950, she stated that she was born of 18 May 1932 in Morrill, Scotts Bluff, Nebraska to Ellis J Kelley and Inez M Hise. It also records that she died on 15 Jul 2006. Her name was listed as Jean Werkele in Nov 1951, and as E Jean Werkele 21 Apr 1994 and 20 Jul 2006.
Obituary-Casper, Wyoming Star and Tribune, July 18, 2006 TORRINGTON - Funeral services for Jean Werkele, 74, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ora Daily officiating. Burial will be at the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington.
Visitation hours will be today from 1-7 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and after the service at the Colyer Funeral Home.
She died July 15, 2006, at United Medical Center in Cheyenne.
She was born on May 18, 1932 in Morrill, Neb., the daughter of Ellis and Inez (Hise) Kelley. They moved to Lingle and then to Torrington where she graduated high school in 1950.
She attended Eastern Wyoming College and worked there for a short time.
She married William F. Werkele on July 22, 1951 in Torrington. They moved from Torrington in 1960 and lived in Laramie for five years.
The couple then moved to Cheyenne in 1965 where they have lived since. Jean was a homemaker and enjoyed friends and family and entertaining both. She also enjoyed crafts, Christmas and gift giving, and was known for her loving and nurturing ways.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; a son, Dan Werkele and wife of Cheyenne, a daughter, Gail Hill of Los Angeles; two brothers and their wives, Allen Kelley of Richland, Wash.., and Richard Kelley of Phoenix; three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
