In the 1940 US Federal Census for Harvey, Wells, North Dakota, 42-year-old, Minnesota-born widow Dorothy A [Lowry] Johnson has in her household her North Dakota-born children, 19-year-old Dorothy Jeannette, 16-year-old Edward Lowry, 10-year-old Warren Winfield, and 7-year-old Jerome Lynn. The family was living in the same house on Alder Avenue in 1935. Dorothy A has completed four years of high school as has Dorothy Jeannette. Edward has completed one year of high school. Warren has completed third grade. Jerome has completed first grade. Dorothy A is a housewife who is not looking for work. She has a source of income other than wages or salary. Dorothy Jeannette is a dental assistant in a dental office, has worked 48 hours in the past week and worked 28 weeks of the past year, earning $140. Edward is a student who is not looking for work.

Jerome L. Johnson was born June 15, 1932, in Minot, ND, the son of Elmer and Dorothy (Lowry) Johnson.

Jerome L. Johnson, 79, of Jamestown, ND, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at his home in Jamestown, surrounded by his family.

Jerome L. Johnson was born June 15, 1932, in Minot, ND, the son of Elmer and Dorothy (Lowry) Johnson. He grew up in Harvey, ND and graduated from Harvey Public Schools in 1950. Jerome entered the US Army on January 1, 1951 and served with the famous 2nd Infantry Div. 23rd Regimental Tank Co. in Korea in the Battles of Alligator Jaw, Jane Russell, Pork Chop & Old Baldy. He was discharged Sgt. 1st Class on December 8, 1952. Upon discharge, Jerome started working for the Bureau of Reclamation (Power Division) at Devils Lake, ND on January 20, 1953. He married Irene Ehli on November 17, 1954 in Harvey, and moved to Devils Lake. On October 1, 1956, they moved to Jamestown where he worked for WAPA, Western Area Power Administration, as a groundman, apprentice lineman, lineman, and 28 years as a supervisory lineman until his retirement, after 43 years of service, in January 1995.

Jerome was a member of the St. James Basilica, Past Commander of American Legion Post #14, Past President of the Drum & Bugle Corps., Disabled American Veterans Chapter 31, all of Jamestown, and V.F.W. Post 1868 of Harvey, ND. Jerome is survived by his wife, Irene, Jamestown; a son, Michael, Jamestown; three daughters, Jonell (James) Niemeyer, Los Altos, CA, Cheryl (Duane) Wanner, Maple Grove, MN, and Becky (Lennie) Steinmetz, Jamestown; four grandsons, Jordan Niemeyer, New York City, Matthew (Karisa) Johnson, Minneapolis, MN, Andrew (Rachelle) Johnson, St. Louis Park, MN, and Nicholas Wanner, Maple Grove, MN; four granddaughters, Alexandra Niemeyer, Norman, OK, Hannah Steinmetz, Jamestown, Sophie Steinmetz, Jamestown, and Elizabeth Wanner, Maple Grove, MN; and four great-grandchildren, Daniel & Micah Johnson, St. Louis Park, MN, Lydia & Eliana Johnson, Minneapolis, MN; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jeanette Weinmann and Eleanor Keith; and three brothers, Edward Johnson and Warren Johnson, and an infant. Eucharist of Christian Burial: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 9, 2011 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown. Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Prayer Service: 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.
