Shared note | According to Making a Neighborhood by D.D. Banta, The year Indiana was admitted in the Union, young Serrill came with his father to Jefferson county, in this State, and settled not far from the Jennings county line. December 9th, 1824, he was married to Mary Ann Miller, who was a sister of the William and Washington Miller, who subsequently moved to this neighborhood. The ancestor of the Millers came from Ireland to North Carolina in 1767, and in 1816 John Miller, his son and the father of our Shiloh Millers moved to Kentucky, and thence at the end of a year to Jennings county, in this state. In the 1820 US Federal Census for Township Not Stated, Jennings, Indiana, John Miller has in his household two white males under 10, one white male 16 through 18, four white males 16 through 25, one free white male over 45 [himself], two free white females under 10, two white females 16 through 25, one white female 26 through 45, one white female 45 and over [his wife, Jane Smith]. Jane Smith Miller died 6 Oct 1848 and was buried in Graham Presbyterian Cemetery, Lovett, Jennings, Indiana. |
