Lucy has borne seven children and all are living. Living with them are their youngest Arkansas-born children, 17-year-old Lucy and 14-year-old farm laborer Benjamin. Herman immigrated to the United States in 1860, has lived here for 39 years and is a naturalized citizen. Herman owns his farm free of mortgage. Everyone can read, write and speak English. Herman's parents were born in Germany; Lucy's father was born in Arkansas and her mother in North Carolina; Lillie and Benjamin's father was born in Germany and their mother in Arkansas.
