Shared note

In the 1900 US Federal Census for Vernon, Jackson, Indiana, 41-year-old, Indiana-born William H King and his 33-year-old, Indiana-born second wife Edith B [Fitch] King have been married four years. Edith has born no children. They have in their household William's Indiana-born children by his marriage to his first wife, Mary McCasland King, 15-year-old Bessie H, 14-year-old Clarence H, and 13-year-old Lulu B. Bessie, Clarence and Lulu have attended school six months of the past year. Everyone is literate and speaks English. William is a farmer who owns the land he is farming, but it has a mortgage. William's father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Germany. Everyone else has parents born in Indiana.

From findagrave.com, contributed by Steve Rowe (Find A Grave Memorial# 29235601) North Vernon Plain Dealer, April 19, 1923 OBITUARY Bessie Myrtle, daughter of William H. and Mary Alice King, ws born in Jackson County, near Uniontown, August 9, 1884. She was the eldest of four children, two of whom are liv- ing, Clarence King of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Lula Foster of Jackson Coun- ty. The other sister died when a small child. When Bessie was a child of eight years, her mother died and later her faterh was united in mar- riage to Edity Fitch, who has been a tender and loving mother to the moth- erless children. At the age of eighteen years, Bessie united with the Union- town Baptist Church. She was mar- ried to Eugene W. Auston of this place Octover 30th 1904 and came to Commiskey to live. In 1905 , she brought her letter from the Union- town Church to the Commiskey Bap- tist Church, where she has remained ever a devoted member--a tireless worker and a faithful Christian. Her life has been blessed by two daughters, Mary and Ethel, both living and of whom she was justly proud, and am- bitious for their success. she died on April 12th, 1923, aged 38 years 8 months and 3 days, after an illness of three weeks, during which time, all that medical skill and loving care could do-- availed not, and her gen- tle spirit was taken by Him who giveth and who taketh away. Bessie was always gentle and kind, always ready to help others--quiet and mod- est, with a loving smile for everybody. She leaves many sorrowing relatives and saddened friends, the children who were blessed by a loving faith- ful mother, the husband who was devoted to her, but their loss is sure- ly her gain. She is free from the world's sufferinf, and the ones who love her have the assurance of one day meeting her where partings come no more.
