Shared note

In the 1910 US Federal Census for Grant, Stone, Missouri, 44-year-old Arkansas-born Jessee [sic] C Lane and his 45-year-old Missouri-born wife Dora [sic LaDora Torbitt] have been married sixteen years. LaDora has born three children and all are living. These three Missouri-born children are 14-year-old Uel M, 11-year-old Edgar and 6-year-old Willis E, who have all attended school in the past year.. Also in the household is a boarder, 28-year-old Arkansas-born school teacher May Allen. The family is living on a farm on Marionville and Crane Road, which Jesse owns, free of mortgage. In addition to the farm, Jesse is the owner of a General Store. Everyone can read, write and speak English except Willis. Jesse's father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Arkansas; LaDora's parents were born in Tennessee; the children's father was born in Arkansas and their mother in Missouri; May's parents were born in Arkansas.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Pierce, Stone Missouri, 53-year-old Arkansas-born J.C. Lane and his 39-year-old Missouri-born second wife Mary [Cloud] Lane have in their household the Missouri-born children of Jesse's first marriage to LaDora Torbitt, 23-year-old widower Uel, 21-year-old Edgar and 16-year-old Willis, and their 2-year-old Missouri-born grandson, Harold, who is the sone of Uel and an unknown. Jesse is the owner of a dry goods store, Uel is a clerk in that store and Edgar is a railroad brakeman. None of the children have attended school in the past year. Everyone but Harold is literate and can speak English. Jesse's father was born in Missouri and his mother in Arkansas; Mary's parents were born in Missouri; Uel, Edgar and Willis' father was born in Arkansas and their mother in Missouri; Harold's father was born in Missouri and his mother in Colorado [? written over].

In the 1930 US Federal Census for Crane, Pierce, Stone, Missouri, 63-year-old Arkansas-born Jessie [sic] C Lane and his 50-year-old Missouri-born wife Mary [Cloud] Lane were married for the first time whe he was 28-years old and she was 35-years old. This indicates that this is a second marriage for Jesse, but first marriage for Mary. They have in their household, 26-year-old Missouri-born Willis E, the son of Jesse and his first wife, LaDora Torbitt Land, and their daughter, 5-year-old [sic] Missouri-born Ada B Lane. The family is living in a house that Jesse owns, worth $1,200, on Maude Ave. Willis is absent on the day of the census as he is a traveling salesman for a hardware company. He has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Jesse and Mary have no employment. Ada has not attended school. All the adults are literate and can speak English. Jesse's father was born in Missouri and his mother in Arkansas; Mary's father was born in Missouri and her mother in Tennessee; Willis' father was born in Arkansas and his mother in Missouri; Ada's father was born in Arkansas and her mother in Missouri.
