In the 1930 US Federal Census for Condit, Campaign, Illinois, 29-year-old Illinois-born [sic] farmer John and his 37-year-old Illinois-born wife Neva [Smith] Underwood were married when he was 21- and she was 27-years old. They have in their household their Illinois-born daughters, 7-year-old Dorotha and 5-year-old Dolores and a hired man, 20-year-old Maryland-born farm laborer Elmer Hopkins, The family is living in a rented house on a farm. They have a radio. Dorotha has attended school in the past year. John is farming rented land (general farming) and he and Elmer have worked on the last regularly scheduled work dayl John has served in WWi, but Elmer has not served in the military. Johns's parents were born in Illinois [sic]; Neva's father was born in Indiana and her mother in New York; the children's parents were born in Illinois [sic]; Elmer's father was born in Maryland and his mother in Iowa.

In the 1940 US Federal Census for Condit, Campaign, Illinois, 39-year-old Illinois-born [sic] farmer John and his 47-year-old Illinois-born wife Neva [Smith] Underwood and their three Illinois-born children, 17-year-old Dortha, 15 year-old Delores and 6-year-old Roma Joan, are living in a rented house on a farm, for which John pays $40 a month. They were living in the same house in 1935. John has completed three years of high school. Neva has completed four years of high school. Dortha has completed four years of high school. Dolores has completed one year of high school. Roma has attended school but has not completed a year. John is a self employed farmer and is not looking for work. He has worked 60 hours in the past week and 52 weeks in the past year. Neva is a housewife who is not looking for work. Neither receive a wage nor salary, but both have outside income. Dortha and Delores are not looking for work as they are students. Neither has wages nor salary and they do not have outside income.

Obituary-Dorotha Underwood Plair-Moss, The State, Columbia South Carolina, January 4, 2013 Dr. Dorotha U. Plair-Moss BATESBURG-LEESVILLE - Services for Dr. Dorotha Underwood Plair-Moss, 90, will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at St. John's UMC with the Rev. Steven King officiating. Internment will follow in Ridge Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic B-L Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. John's UMC, 513 W. Church St., B-L, SC 29006. Dr. Plair-Moss passed away, Sunday, December 30, 2012. Born in Fisher, IL, she was a daughter of the late John and Neva Smith Underwood. After graduating from high school, she continued her education with a BS in Accounting from the University of Illinois, and later earned a Master of Arts in Teaching and a PhD in Philosophy from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Plair-Moss was a member of St. John's UMC, Association of School Administrators, Delta Kappa Gamma and Alpha Delta Kappa. She retired from Lexington County School District 3 with over 40 years of service as a Teacher and Administrator and was the long-time accountant for the B-L Chamber of Commerce. Surviving are sisters, Dolores Bartizal of Rogers, AR and Roma J. Dalrymple of Loves Park, IL; stepchildren, Pat Hilton of Aiken, Robert Moss of Pembroke, FL and Ricardo Moss of Stockbridge, GA; 6 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands, John H. Plair, Sr., and Roberto Moss, and her son John H. Plair, Jr.
