The 1940 US Federal Census for Graham, Jefferson, Indiana records 72-year-old, Indiana-born Alexander S McKeand and his 67-year-old, Indiana-born wife Nancy B [Deputy] McKeand. They are living in town in a house owned by Alexander, worth $500. They were living in the same place in 1935. Both have completed the eighth grade. Neither has a job nor is looking for work. they have not worked in 1939. They have no outside source of income.

When Alexander Shaw McKeand applied for his Social Security Number in Nov 1943, he stated that he was male, whire, and born to Geroge McKeand and Elizabeth Shaw on 11 Nov 1867 in Republican, Jefferson, Indiana.
