In the 1900 US Federal Census for Hendricks, Shelby, Indiana, 34-year-old Indiana-born farmer Oliver and his 41-year-old Indiana born wife Amanda [Hemphill] Anderson have been married 16-years. Amanda has born seven children, six are living. These six Indiana-born children are 12-year-old Belle, 10-year-old farm laborer William, 8-year-old Pearl, the twins, 5-year-old Bertha and 5-year-old Bert and 2-year-old Lethe. Oliver can read, write and speak English, Amanda can read and speak English, Belle and William can read, write and speak English and have attended school 5 months of the past year.
